Good Friday to one and all. Talk about a big time weather pattern change… wow! The difference between our Wednesday and Thursday was nothing short of awesome for us cool weather fans. Afternoon temps went from the 80s to the 50s. The best news of all is that it actually RAINED!!!!! Some areas picked up a quarter to a half inch and this put out the forest fires that have been plaguing the state over the past few weeks. Our cool and damp Thursday was what the weather doctor ordered.

We are heading into the weekend facing the coldest air of the season to date. Last weekend and earlier in the week I was talking about a second little system roaming through later Friday. I kind of lost it in all the hoopla of my KYT reunion tour. Well… I am tracking it again as it may very well bring a light shower or a few sprinkles to the state later Friday into early Saturday. Nothing major but this is yet another fall sign I am loving as it relates to the winter ahead of us.

Outside of our Friday night/Saturday light shower threat… it’s the temps stealing the weekend weather show. Highs Friday will top out in the low 60s across the region with a mix of sun and clouds. High school football fans should be on the lookout for one of those sprinkles as temps fall toward 50 by the 4th quarter. I am torn about Saturday right now as my little system has me worried that clouds may try to linger across the eastern half of the state into the afternoon hours. If this is indeed the case… temps for those under the clouds may not get out of the low and mid 50s. Right now… highs in the upper 50s to low 60s is my call and I am sticking to it. For now. UK has a 7pm kickoff out at Commonwealth and temps should be falling into the 40s by the half so dress warmly. I will be the one in the big blue parka doing my best Kenny from South Park impersonation.

I have no shame!

FROST LIKELY SUNDAY MORNING!

This is something we have been targeting for a while now and I think a widespread frost is in store for central and eastern Kentucky. Our GFS temp map has not changed at all over the past few days…

Some  of the valleys should see the first sub freezing temps of the fall meaning a light freeze is a possibility as well.

Highs Sunday will warm into the low and mid 60s making for a wonderful fall day in the bluegrass state.  Monday looks good too as temps may flirt with 70 on a southwesterly wind ahead of our next cold front. This should arrive early Tuesday and might bring a shower to the state. Just one! Temps will chill back down with lower 60s for Tuesday afternoon. After a frosty start to your Wednesday… highs will rebound nicely into the upper 60s.

The end of next week will see a major trough digging into the plains and this will likely bring a fairly decent sized storm toward us by Thursday and Friday next week. This could mean our first big chance at some good rains across the area in quite a while. Check out what the European model is showing for Thursday morning…

That is some very chilly air moving in with this system. These big cutoff lows can sometimes bring some rather interesting weather with them.

Regardless… this is a chilly pattern that is beginning across the eastern half of the country and I think it’s one that may try to lock in for an early start to winter as we go into November and December. Dang it… I did it again… another hint. I just can’t keep my big weather mouth shut.

Have a wonderful Friday my friends and take care.
