Hello everyone and welcome to the weekend. It’s a busy weekend for your friendly weather dude here as I will be heading back to Lexington for a few days to work for my old station.
If you are interested I will be on WKYT from Sunday through Wednesday and will be working the evenings. That means you will see me at 6, 10 and 11 Sunday and then at 5, 5:30, 6, 10 and 11 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be a little strange going back but I am looking forward to seeing my old friends and hanging out on the big 27 once again.
Let’s talk a little weather! Here is a look at our Friday night weather map…
Warm high pressure is in control of the weather around here. Highs over the weekend into Monday will be in the low to mid 80s under mainly sunny skies. That big storm out west is bringing some big snows to parts of that region. Here is a look at the winter weather advisories that are posted out west…
And here is a pic of what the folks in Nevada are enjoying…
We are getting there folks! ![]()
Next week is a week of change as far as the weather pattern is concerned. While we start warm and dry… the chances for us to end the week cool and wet are increasing. We will be dealing with a cold front that will make a run at us Tuesday night into Wednesday. This front will have lost a lot of it’s punch by the time it reaches us meaning only a few showers will be possible. Here is the GFS Wednesday morning…
That front will become stationary across the Ohio Valley and should allow for a low pressure to develop by Thursday and Friday. This low has a good shot at bringing some needed rains to us during this time…
The map above is for next Friday. All the models are suggesting something like this taking place so let us hope we can get some much needed rains. My hometown of Salyersville in Magoffin County is in DESPERATE need of rain as the Licking River has dried up there and the county is basically out of water. ![]()
After the low swings through on Friday… a shot of chilly air should arrive for next weekend…
The pattern looks like it will be one that may try to repeat the above scenario a few more times for the second half of October! Each shot of chilly air will be colder than the last. ![]()
I will try my best to post again on Saturday. If not… I will have something on here Sunday evening as I am settling into my old chair at WKYT. ![]()
Have a great weekend and take care.

Chris,
We will look forward to seeing you on our television again. You are greatly missed.
Thanks Chris…looking forward to seeing you again on TV. Big Blue Madness going on and wintry precip in Nevada…that means the most wonderful time of the year is near! On a serious note, I hope and PRAY Magoffin County and the rest of Eastern Kentucky gets a good soaking rain soon.
Ahh, Chris gets to come back for a bit! What a treat!
I’ll do my best to catch you on at least one of those tapings. 😉
=Aaron=
Thanks Chris. It’ll be good to have you back if only for a few days. I’m anxious for the weather to change and am looking forward to seeing weather advisories like the maps of the west above here!
Maybe a cool game next saturday when the hogs come to town chris?? Seems like we had this kind of weather a few yrs back in December….80’s. Seems it stay warm longer into winter doesn’t it?? Come on climate change, it’s time for a cycle back around to cold patterns and winters like the 70’s when I missed close to 6 weeks of school due to snow. Living in east Tennessee at the time and when it snowed, it snowed. GO CATS, take out the Gamecocks.
does anyone get message post has been submitted for editing by moderator?? If so why does it do this?? Stupid technical glitches.
I want snow and cold lucky people out west.I am lucky I get to watch Chris on WSAZ and still get wkyt at 5 and 530pm.
It sure will be good to have you back, even if it is for a few days. The weather today is fantastic, but look to our west and we see what is to come in the future. We need to remember those people who are running short on water in our prayers. We all need some rain, but some need it real soon. Take care and look forward to seeing you again, Chris, on KYT.
Yea! Chris is coming in less than 24 hours!!!!! I can’t wait!
Pat,Ican’t wait either But we will have to see him go after wednesday that will be a sad day again……
Nobody can lite up that weather screen like our favorite weather dude just wish we could keep you longer……
Am I the only one that can comment where is everybody??????
I feel all alone…….
Sorry you feel that way Marsha
Andy Rose glad to see one of my blogging buddies is here wonder where everybody is???
Well, I was reading another national forum about the upcoming winter. What I got of it is that alot of the peeps on the forum feel that it will be below average as far as temps go for the east this winter, some of the New England peeps are worried about suppression (the dense cold air that will push storms to the south and prevent above average snows for their area). Regarding our area, it could push the storm track through the Ten Valley up through the mid atlantic to give us more snows. I specifically asked what anyone thought Lexington’s winter would be in terms of snowfall. One person said 30 to 40 inches. 🙂 But really, who knows, I just don’t think any of us know what’s going to happen that far in the future.
Saw Chris at 6:00. It sure was nice to see him doing the weather again. MarkLex I do like snow, but 30-40 is just a little to much. Jackson County will never go to school if that happens and I want summer vacation. :-)I hope that everyone enjoyed the pretty day!
Marsha,
I still show up, I just don’t comment much. I guess I’m just lazy, not wanting to type in those numbers….who knows.
Chris,
I caught the tail end of your forecast at 11 tonight, but did see you smiling up there whilst doing your final weather recap, talking with Mark (I believe?) and looked like you were happy to be back! Great to see you again Chris. 🙂
=Aaron=
Chris, that was my previous post but I put my old email address in that field. Oopsie! LOL
Eh well. We might still wanna delete that message if we can, I’d prefer it if you can have that done. Thanks.
Again, from what I said earlier, saw you tonight and thought you were having a great time back in WKYT-land. It was great to see you again! Might even catch you tomorrow night as well. 🙂
=Aaron=
MarkLex,
You didn’t ask for it, but :)….hehe..
If I were to make a prediction for this winter’s snowfall, I think we’ll average between 25 and 30″ total.
Just slightly above average 😉

Thanks. I’m sure we will all take that! I was also reading that in this part of the country if we want a stormy winter then we want the NAO to be positive NOW, not during winter. The fact that it is positive now is good. Although we need rain. I was looking at snowfall records back through the late 1940s to current. There are Alot of years with 30 + seasonal snows. There are also alot with single digit seasonal totals. What is Lexington WSO airport? That’s what the site that I’m looking at says.
Lexington WSO Airport? I’m not sure—I live south of Lexington and have no clue…sorry! 🙁
I’m thinking the heaviest of the precip–whether it be rain, ice, or sleet/snow, snow will be confined to the southern two thirds of the state this upcoming winter. The extreme southern part of the state may hit on an ice storm once or even twice this winter given the possible setup.
Aaron. Here is the link…when the page loads…look to the left and scroll down until you see monthly precip listings and monthly snowfall listings. Click snowfall. It says Lex wso airport. Dunno what that is though.

Some time before, I did need to buy a good car for my corporation but I didn’t earn enough cash and could not purchase something. Thank goodness my friend suggested to take the business loans from reliable creditors. Hence, I acted so and used to be satisfied with my consolidation loan.
