Good Thursday everyone! Our start to the month of October was a chhilly one for most of the state. Gusty showers moved through parts of northern and northeastern Kentucky giving a few folks some much needed rains. Highs Wednesday struggled into the low 60s for most of the region.
As of this writing shortly before 1am… skies were clearing across parts of the state and thermometers were really tanking. I see where skies and clear and winds are calm across southern Ky right now… can we get a kiss of frost somewhere? We will be looking at the numbers and checking with some folks to see if the cold air produced anything. Let me and your fellow bloggers know your low temps by leaving some reports in the comments section!
The pattern right now looks like this…
Our jet stream is taking a big dive into the eastern half of the country leading to a cool start to the month into the deep south.
That will be changing soon as our air upstairs takes on the look of the Omega Block! That looks a little something like this…
It is given the name because it looks like the Greek letter Omega…
Basically this means our pattern will look GOOOOD for the first week or so. Highs the next few days will be in the mid 60s Thursday… 70ish Friday then into the low and mid 70s this weekend into early next week. Lows will be upper 30s to low 40s through Saturday morning then mainly 40s into early next week.
Sunny days and clear nights will make for an awesome looking start to the month!
Middle and end of the month are looking active for much of the country and could provide some interesting weather. Until then… enjoy October at its finest!
Winter talk with my next post! See ya then… take care!

Hey chris…….There you go again! Getting our inquisitve natures going.”Interesting weather”? Come on tell us! What? LOL!
Good Morning all. It’s a crisp 44 degrees here at my place. (SW Franklin co.)
38 at my place this morning still could drop a couple and still could frost so that may prove a couple of so called experts wrong. looks like could be a better chance of frost tomorrow as it is forecasted to be a touch cooler
Thanks Chris…looking forward to the next post regarding winter. I have a hunch this will be a very cold winter the way things are going right now with the patterns.
Refridgerator temps!! 43 at my house in Lawrenceburg this morning..but I live on a hill. When I got to the road below my neighborhood it was 41. Brrr!!!
HOLY COW. Look at the 372 hour chart or thereabouts of the GFS!! What a storm that is digging into the midwest!! It’s showing SNOW in the midwest during the middle of this month. Look for it to get COLD. We’ll have to watch the next few runs closely to see if that idea sticks…
44 and fog at my house in Irvine.
41 and cloudy this morning in Perry Co. If it were completely clear and calm all night it would have probably frosted…
The low at my place this morning was 40.8 degrees. I live in SW Franklin County one mile south of I-64, four miles east of the Shelby/Franklin County line and about 2 miles north of the Anderson County line.
On the Rowan/Carter line, the temp this morning at 6 a.m. was 36.4 degrees.
I don’t know what the low temp was at my house because when i am not working I sleep in lol!!!!! It is 59 in Pikeville right now
it’s gone now on the 12z had the 6z run come true highs would not have reached freezing with several inches of snow across much of the central U.S an extrapolation of the 384 hr image on the 6Z would show a potential for early season snow here as well. I think that was a GFS pipe dream.
Hello all! Wow, was it a chilly morning! Chilly – and beautiful! Hope that you all enjoyed the start to your day.
I have a favor to ask, please. What do you think the weather will be like in Chicago during the last two weeks of October? Some of my family is traveling there and asked me (knowing that I am a faithful follower of this site!) to see if I could get any tips on how to pack for the trip!
My sincere thanks for any help you can offer! Have a great day, everyone!
Chris…..There you go again with the cryptic weather suggestions. I’m getting more excited by the minute! I know this means absolutely nothing, but I have a feeling deep in my bones that this will be Kentucky’s winter of all winters (I’ve probably jinxed it now that I’ve said it). LOL!
