Hi everyone! Our radars have been lighting up with something strange overnight. We are getting sketchy reports that this may be some sort of unidentified liquid. Some of the old timers used to call it RAIN!!!
A cold front is marching across the state with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Check out the radars…
Please keep in mind those are updating radars so the rain may or may not be there depending on when you are looking. Some areas are likely to pick up some decent totals to end what has been a VERY dry month across the state. Highs on this Tuesday will be in the low 70s ahead of our front. Winds will be a bit gusty as well.
MAJOR changes coming for the first several days of October with temps that will be well below normal. Some areas could even squeeze out another shower or two the next few days… especially in the north. Highs in the low to mid 60s will be with us Wed and Thu. Lows will be upper 30s to low 40s in many areas with the potential for thermometers to drop a little more. That and our frost threat is all about having clear skies and light winds. DO NOT believe anyone who says this air mass cannot produce frost because it certainly can!! That does not mean it will because you have to have clear overnight skies and relatively light winds for frost to form!
Our weekend looks AWESOME right now. I will talk more about our cold shot… the weekend and a look ahead toward some more October stuff with my next post.
Take care everybody!

Ahh—a nice drink of water….just what the doctor (and the forecaster) ordered!

Yes! Coming down pretty moderately here in Lex for the last hour…still raining! A little thunder! I will say, to look at the radar, I think this over performed!
sure am glad to see the rain coming. had a very light shower come through while ago. looks like more is on the way. i unhooked all my ham radio antennas from the radios just in case they are lightning in this. cant afford to buy radios back, plus if any antenna would of got hit, the current would of traveled through the radio, then possibly into the electrical wiring of the house, destroying everything else plugged in. not taking any chances.
but i am glad to see rain, but hate seeing frost coming so soon in a way. still got tomatoes just now getting ripe. i bet next year i put the tomatoes out in april instead of late may or early june.
Yeah! We’ve had rain here in Versailles. I don’t think the totals were all that great, but hey, I’ll take what I can get! It was just enough to get those weeds growin’ again because all the grass is dead! LOL!
And just like always Knox misses out on the wet stuff 🙁
After posting 0.00″ the entire month…the last day posts rainfall at my house! Wow! Technically, I had 0.86″ total in Lawrenceburg…half of which fell before midnight on the 29th and the other half after midnight this morning.
Almost an inch…we’ll take it! Wednesday is going to be a RAW day…one we aren’t used to around here. So get ready. Hopefully we can get some more rainfall in the next two weeks with this new pattern.
Good morning all.I woke up to a wonderful sound in Pikeville this morning rain!!!!!!
If you look at the latest GFS charts, what you see is that over the next 15 days we should transistion into a VERY zonal flow. What that should mean for us is 1.) Mild temperatures and 2.) Frequent chances at rainfall
3 tenths of inch in my rain gauge in Irvine.
Thanks Chris…we had some rain earlier here in Letcher County. It was indeed a GREAT sound…but we need more of it.
I had 1/2″ in my guage here in Richmond. Nice. A long way to go though. Had to be greedy but we need more. Like the fall-like temps.
Hi all! I posted early this morning but got one of those “success your comment etc. etc.” We got our rain here in Woodford too! I just hope it will help other things beside the weeds!
I’d say here in Garrard County we picked up between half and three-quarters of an inch. We also got fairly frequent lightning and thunder to go along with it. Just what I wanted! Lovely!
I stayed up for a couple of hours just listening to it, since it had been so long since I heard it last.
We might get another rain event like this in the next week to ten days or so.
Perhaps the plains system can bring along some dynamics to help kick off some more rain. 🙂
I’m beginning to feel the slight chance for one of those 8 letter words beginning with F and ending in S…how many more days do we have before we see those? 🙂 Perhaps 30 or 45? 😉
