Good Saturday to one and all and welcome to the weekend. Our shower pattern on Friday was much as expected with southeastern Kentucky getting the bulk of the rain. Isolated showers worked into parts of central Kentucky as well. Many areas stayed dry.
As we go through this Saturday… it looks like our shower chances are a little bit higher for most of us! This does not mean you are going to see an all day rain… but I do think we will see the showers a bit farther west and a touch more concentrated than Friday. Some mixed sunshine will be with us too. Here is the rain forecast from the GFS for Saturday into early Sunday…
Wait a minute… wasn’t this the same model that had no rain in Kentucky for most of the past week while all of the other models were showing shower chances here? Yep… that’s the one. Maybe one day it’s followers will learn how to read it’s biases or look at another model to issue a forecast. Okay… Okay… no ranting right now. ![]()
The model is getting a pretty good read on the big chill coming down the road for the middle and end of next week as it matches up pretty well with other models. Check it…

You get the idea… it’s going to get very chilly around here and the FROST THREAT is growing for the end of next week into the weekend. If everything goes just right… 32 or below would be possible in some areas. Brrrrr!
While I am on the subject of the extended forecast… nice discussion from our buddy MJ over at the NWS in Louisville. He is one of the best in the biz and I am not just saying that because her stops by sometimes. (mainly to yell at me!
)
Have a great weekend my friends and I will be updating at some point upon my return from Commonwealth Stadium!!!!
Take care.

Thanks for your dedication Chris
Thanks Chris…have a GREAT weekend…GO CATS!!! 🙂
Thanks Chris! Yep, I think it’s definitely going to be a good weekend for that Chili I’ve been waiting for! Of course, I still want that rain too!
Thanks for the nice comment Chris. I’m still not sold on a frost yet…too many things against it now. Though there is a trend in the Euro for one. Will have to wait and see.
Anybody see any rain in our future? Our yard is such a disaster that we’ve decided to buy a load of topsoil and start over. It would be nice to have hope for a bit o’ rain.
Still waiting for the golden wooly worm winter weather forecast…
🙂
When is the last time we had widespread all day rain? I honestly don’t remember. We had a wet spring, but I don’t think all of KY did. Jackson KY is 10 inches below norm almost. AGAIN! The only reason Lex has had almost 37 inches of rain this year is the pop up storms at the airport. Wild!
Not a drop of rain here in Mercer. Pretty dismal. It’s been weeks.
Not a drop of rain here in Wilmore. Last night it smelled a bit like rain and felt like it could, but none made it to the ground. Today it was very cloudy at times and looked so promising, but still nothing.
Come on rain!!!!!!
No offense, but I could care less about an early October frost. Parts of southcentral Kentucky are back into a moderate to severe drought. We need some rainfall. I’ve given up on cold, snowy winters. This makes one wonder if some climate shift is occurring and our rainfall will be more like the southwest.
Hi all just got in from a friend’s big birthday party and the rain is really coming down in Pikeville I forgot what it sounded like lol!!!!! signing off from margaritaville or however you spell it lol!!!!!!!
Chris musta took the long way home 😉
Are we still looking at a line of storms coming through Teusday? I know Chris had talked about it, but haven’t heard anymore mention of it since the other day so I was just wondering.
A golden woolyworm, eh? Well, if you want to get into folklore, I’d look at “golden” this way….
If it’s golden, then you’re going to get what you’ve been wishing for, for a LONG TIME— this winter. 😉
