Good Friday everyone and thanks for blogging with the center! Our weekend is just about here and we are looking to our east for some showers. We have covered our rain threat for the next few days pretty good so out attention is turning toward some real deal chill next week.
The best chances for showers on this Friday into Saturday is across the east. Central Kentucky will see more isolated stuff as we go into late Friday and early Saturday. The farther west you go… forget about it. My map from the last post has it all covered. Winds will be gusty over the next few days and temps will be cool in the east and near normal for central and western parts of the state. Yada yada yada.
Here is a couple of radars for you to use to track the showers in from the east…![]()
The storm that worked into the Carolinas last night was a tropical storm… regardless of what the National Hurricane Center said. What a poor poor job they did with this storm. It is really amazing how they operate down in Miami under the new director. It is just plain old bad.
Speaking of bad… the hurricane center ended up naming the second system as Tropical Storm Kyle. They did so without ever naming this system a tropical depression. How many times have they done that this year? They are asleep at the wheel on anything that does not have the chance to become a major storm. At least that is how it appears to me.
Here is Kyle…![[Image of 5-day forecast of predicted track, and coastal areas under a warning or a watch]](https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT11/refresh/AL1108W5_sm2+gif/025755W_sm.gif)
Looks like New England will be feeling the effects of this system.
For us… cold weather fans should be excited at the pattern we are seeing for the first few weeks of October. I have been all over this pattern being one that can produce an early season frost for this region. I first made that statement a few weeks ago and we see that threat looming for the middle and end of next week.
Our jet stream is about to come crashing down on us by Tuesday leading to some VERY chilly air for early October. Here is what our setup will look like by the middle of next week…
We are seeing blocking showing up big time over the next few weeks. The first push of cold air moves in late Tuesday as a cold front blows through. This is looking more like a full latitude trough as opposed to the cutoff stuff the models had been showing. Here is what it may mean next week…
1. Monday is windy and warm with temps pushing 80.
2. A line of showers and thunderstorms will come through with the front Tuesday as gusty winds take shape.
3. Wednesday’s forecast map looks like a northwesterly wind sets up leading to lake effect rain showers around here. Now that is a cold air mass that can do that this early!
Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.
4. Skies clear later Wednesday with a frost threat looming for Thursday and Friday of next week. Highs those days will be 60ish with lows in the 30s!
This pattern may try to stick around for a little while leading to a chilly first half of October for much of the region!!
Okay… that is all you get from me right now. I do want to mention that the blog is having some technical problems with comments not showing up and I am looking into it. If you are having troubles posting… email me at chrisbaileyweather@yahoo.com
Take care gang.

Hi all.I love the cooler weather,i can’t wait till next week because it,s 69 in Pikeville now and I am freezing, but in a good way.I am curled up with a great book and my blanket being oh so lazy.We have had a few showers nothing heavy.I will take what I can get.The only thing is the knee is acting up it always tells me rain is on the way along with you Chris lol!!!Another birthday party for one of our dearest friends tomorrow night at least its in doors this partying is catching up to me,but how do you say no? lol.
My husband just called and said there were odd-looking drops on his windshield – he thought it ‘might be rain.’ I told him to stop the car quick – jump out and get a bucket to collect it all. By the time I got all of that out, it quit. Figures…..
The NWS site said today would be windy, but we don’t even have a breeze here in Bourbon County. It’s sunny and dry and dusty. 🙁
I’m not even going to get my hopes up for any rain anytime soon.
I was at the park today and something wet kept hitting me. I was sure a kid was playing in the fountain!! Turns out it was sprinkling! That’s all we got. How sad it was that I didn’t know what it was – it has been so long since it’s rained, I was sure it wasn’t that!. 😛
