Good Friday everybody! A Friday that is looong overdue in my book. We are heading into the weekend with more nice weather across the state. Our last weekend of summer will see temps on the climb a bit. I am also watching for something we haven’t seen in a little while… the chance for some showers or thunderstorms.
This isn’t a great chance… but the NAM has been very consistant on suggesting that central and western Kentucky will get some scattered stuff. Here is the NAM Total Precip map for the weekend..
Hey… at least it’s a chance right?!!
Temps over the weekend into early next week will be in the 80-85 degree range for highs with lows generally in the 50s.
I do see some changes coming by the middle of next week as we are likely to see a big storm crank along the southeastern coast. This system may be cutoff from the main flow and will likely have a blocking high overtop of it. This should lead to much cooler air moving in on a northeasterly flow around here. Can this system bring us some much need rains? Probably not… unless it decides to come a little farther west.
The tropics have taken a little break. But… a new system is trying to develop in the eastern Caribbean and develop further in the coming days. Here is the latest from the National Hurricane Center…
You see the system in the bottom right hand corner of that sat shot. A Few of the models have been taking this toward the Bahamas early next week. Something to watch out for anyway.
That’s all I have for you with this go around. I will update through the weekend so make sure you check back. Until next time… take care.

Thanks Chris! I’ve given up on rain. In fact I’ve given up on my tomatoes! I’m having fried green tomatoes this weekend. I’m just so tired of dragging that hose out and down to the back of the yard. Maybe next year I’ll have a boomin’ crop. It’s always NEXT year it seems. AHG!
Good morning all.Chris or anyone when do you see our temps cooling to fall temps??????? I want cooler weather,Mitch wxman??
Good morning Patty!!! Patty on those fried green tomatoes don’t laugh at me but how do you fix those? While I am at it my husband has been wanting me to learn how to fix fried apple pies lol what a joke ,so any cooks out there please give me your recipe’s or tips??????
I do so want the 80s gone and want fall here!!!!!!
Thanks Chris for the update….have a GREAT weekend. 🙂
Yesterday was a crazy day at work for me, so I didn’t have a free moment. Just now reading about the big secret. Looking forward to having you back at WKYT, even if just for a week. 🙂
Chris is right, the NAM is very consistent right now in showing isolated t-storms this weekend. Considering the NAM’s incredible track record this Summer, I think it’s foolish for the NWS to go with a dry forecast. But, how many times have we seen that this Summer? I lost count.
Also…GFS is consistent in showing a HUGE trough swinging through on the last day of the month. What that means is October 1st could be in the 50s for highs! Fall is certainly right around the corner…
I’m with you JavaJoe, just getting caught up as well.. Looking forward to seeing you back in FAMILIAR territory there Bailey. Maybe we could get a wsaz loan for Chris for the entire upcoming winter months..:)
Boy this weather is so BORING. I’ll be glad when the snowstorms are a brewin’ or even at least the threat of one.
I want to know which model made the NWS forecast “Heavy Rain” for my area on Sunday??? That had my hopes up and I didn’t water anything Friday or Saturday. I’ve been watering everything since that forecast went totally bust. Not only was there not any heavy rain — there was no rain at all. (and way too much wind)
On a much brighter note, I’m happy as a clam about WKYT doing a news story on the local Paris animal shelter needing a need A/C unit and a new furnace. They did the story Thursday evening and the response has been overwhelming. Thanks to all the fine folks involved. 🙂
KP…that forecast was made because with the remnant of Ike moving into the area, we all thought there’d be some heavy tropical rains around here. Instead all we got was the wind damage. But to have rain in the forecast Sunday wasn’t a bad idea.
To have a 100% dry forecast for this coming weekend like they do right now…that IS a bad idea.
Crystal…Slice the tomatoes the thickness that you like (my Mom likes them real thin, but I like thim a little larger). Soak them in very cold salt water. When ready to cook turn them in corn meal (I use white corn mill). Put enough oil in a skillet and allow it to get hot. Fry them golden brown. Yummy and easy!!
I like reverse direction….forecast dry weather and maybe we will get some rain because every time rain is forecasted, it doesn’t rain. the water company loves it because we all spend boat loads of money on watering..(yards, plants, new trees, etc.)
I can’t believe Missouri is getting MORE RAIN!
Hey Chris, you might want to doublecheck the terms of that so-called “one week loan” contract. Today’s Lexington Herald-Leader has your photo on the weather page, along with T.G. and Kevin Lighty.
Lauren and Todd must be wondering if there’s something they should know!!
🙂
Hey everyone! So I thought I’d check out Chris’s new venture here, which I think is awesome! I also saw on the comments about me being back on the WKYT team with Chris and T.G. !!! Oh yes baby, the good ol times! Chris I hope you are doing well buddy, keep up the good work and I’ll be coming back to LEX in a few weeks for Keeneland!!!
