Good evening, all. We have a cold front on the move across Kentucky and this will bring some changes for our Tuesday weather. Speaking of changes, we have a lot of them in store for the next week and change. A surge in temps won’t last long, as Old Man Winter fights back.
I have no changes on the front for Tuesday… light rain in the morning will give way to some snowflakes as temps drop through the 30s from west to east.
Another front moves in by Thursday night and Friday with the potential for some snowflakes. I don’t think it makes the hookup with a storm trying to pop across the southeast.
MUCH milder air surges in this weekend with readings in the 50s for many. This is ahead of a potent storm system moving in early next week. That storm then unlocks the cold to return…
That’s from the European model. Here’s the GFS illustrating the big change…
The Canadian Model isn’t as strong with that system and is farther south and colder…
It has the much colder air coming in and follows that storm up with this a few days later…
This will be a drastic change ahead as temps go from above normal…
To well below normal in the blink of an eye…
Winter is reloading and I think it’s coming back in a big way as we get into February!
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Hit 52 degrees here in Middlesboro today with sunny skies. Great Day out.
Bring it on! NO buyer’s remorse on that recent snow blower purchase (we hope 🙂
This post is strictly for CB: Chris, I don’t know how often you read all of the comments on the blog as you stay very busy, but I simply wanted to give you a special “thank you” for your very detailed, accurate short and long-term forecasts. If you remember from summer through November, you had to fight to explain to many people how this El Nino would not produce an overall “blow torch” winter; I tried to comment here and there to help back you up with telling people not to trust the mild, dry winter being predicted by most main stream meteorological reporting mediums. Although we had a “hot” December certainly to remember, you prepared a very detailed and accurate long-term forecast of how the temperatures would not stay hot all winter long with the prospects for decent snows and overall wet conditions. Even before this fall, you have been very accurate for micro forecasting throughout the state of Kentucky which includes over 300 miles west to east and 200 miles north to south. You don’t just talk about big city weather in Lexington or Louisville, but you take your time to give detailed and accurate forecasts for very small cities and geographical areas far removed from where you live. I just wanted to say that forecasts are truly a blessing and much admired for helping people prepare and actually enjoy the weather for super weather freaks like me:)
God Bless and thanks again…
I agree Thanks Chris, your dedication to the entire state is amazing.

Thank you!
Thank you very much, Terry. That really means a lot to me.
This sounds all too familiar! (2014, 2015)
I still say we’re in the clear the rest of winter. Maybe a fe ankle biters but that’s about it. No doubt you know your stuff mr. Bailey, you have proved that! I think I just got a case of the snow blues. As in I don’t want no more of the white stuff! Here’s to warmer temps and sunshine. It was 51 at my house in CKY today!
Someone is ready for spring! 🙂
Since I really have no choice in the matter, I, for one, welcome our new snow overlord. I just wish he’d leave the sidewalk and driveway alone next time.
