Good Friday to everyone! Well… it’s that time once again… time to start another weekend here in the bluegrass state. Looks like this one will have several things to talk about in terms of the weather. That goes for here at home and across the country.

Let’s start at home where some tropical showers and thundershowers are moving across the region. This stuff is along and ahead of a cold front that is taking its good old sweet time moving through. This means more in the way of rains will be with us through Friday and probably into Saturday too. As we have mentioned over the past several days… this continues to be a narrow area of showers. Since they are slow movers and have some tropical moisture to work with… they can put down some locally heavy rains.

Here are a couple of radar views to track the rains across the state…

Our Friday temps will be held in check with upper 70s and low 80s for areas with the showers… especially in central Kentucky. The eastern part of the state will be warmer with mid and upper 80s before the clouds get in with any shower chance holding off until evening.

We will be dealing with some showers for high school football games.

Saturday is a big day because it’s the home opener for our Cats! Tailgaters may still have a leftover shower to deal with as the band of showers shifts into eastern Kentucky during the afternoon. It will be a close call… but it looks dry for kickoff at 6 Saturday with temps in the upper 70s. It will likely be rather humid, though.

Sunday will see temps rebound into the low to mid 80s and stay there into Monday for highs. Monday will see some late clouds and breezy weather ahead of a cold front.

That front will swoop through here Tuesday with some showers and storms and much cooler air behind it. Highs in the 75-80 degree range for Tuesday and Wednesday looks good right now. Lows can get down to 50 and maybe some 40s Wednesday morning if skies are clear.

After that… our weather will depend on what happens with Hurricane Ivan. Here is your daily does of tropical maps…

Hanna and Ike..

Hanna has a date with the Myrtle Beach area and points to the north. This will be a big wind and rain maker all the way into New England. Here is the latest NHC track…

Good ol Ike continues to be a monster hurricane that will threaten Florida early next week. Here is the NHC track…

There are a lot of possibilities with Ike next week. It could sit there near Florida for a few days… get caught up in a trough and head northward along the east coast or it could just say heck with it and move across Florida into the Gulf.

Where this storm winds up will impact the weather around here… either directly or indirectly and that is something to watch our for.

Looking down the road… I have been on record for several days now saying that the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the month will be normal to below. I guess we shall see but I like what I am seeing right now. Also… some of the stuff I am looking at now suggest this may be the year for an earlier than normal frost around here. At least that’s what some of the “similar” past years are telling me.

I will update through the weekend… as usual!

Take care.
