Good Thursday to all my fellow bloggers! This week is zipping by pretty quickly… no wonder with all the tropical talk and a a shortened work week for everybody not names Chris Bailey! In looking ahead toward our weekend… changes are a coming and I think you will like what we have in the extended outlook.

I feel a rambling post coming on so buckle up and get ready!

The hot temps of the past few days have made for an uncomfortable start to the month of September. Highs in the lower 90s have been common and we have one more day of temps on the toasty side. Thursday’s temps will be warmer in the east than the central and west because of the sun verses clouds and isolated storms thing. We have been seeing this over the past few days. It’s good to see the storm threat the blog talked about a few days go materialize these past few days.  Take that GFS MOS lovers!

We are watching a cold front that will cross the state Friday and with it will come better chances for some showers and storms. This front will likely have some leftover tropical moisture from Gustav to work with… even as the true leftovers work through the lakes. These little fronts can be a real pain to forecast because they don’t have a very big push with them meaning any rains that do develop will likely be slooooow movers and in a fairly narrow band. Check out the NAM to see what I am talking about…

Will this stuff be east of Lexington by 6pm Saturday? It is going to be a close call for folks heading out to Commonwealth Stadium for the Cats home opener. I will watch it an update it in the coming days… especially since I am a season ticket holder and can’t find my poncho!

That little system rolling into the Carolinas is Hanna. Here is the latest…

The monster behind Hana is Ike. Good ol’ Ike developed into a cat 4 hurricane last night and may continue to strengthen. Here is the NHC track…

There is going to be a big trough digging into the eastern half of the country early next week and this may help steer Ike more on a northwesterly track up the coast or even out to sea. Here is the trough I am talking about…

GFS 500MB Monday Night

That is one nice little trough coming in and will likely bring some very nice September weather to us here in Kentucky for the middle and end of next week. We will likely see some showers and thunderstorms with the front later Monday into Tuesday. Don’t be surprised if we see some 40s for lows next week!

Yesterday I gave you a scientific forecast model calling for cold temps around here for the fall and winter ahead. Now… I give you some not so scientific data calling for the same thing… The Farmers Almanac!
