I am tired of talking about the tropics and I know you are too. So, I decided to post a fall and winter nugget for each of you to check out.
This is nothing more than a seasonal forecast model for 3 month interevals. You see the first letters of the three month period above each map…
At least it shows us colder than normal this winter and it all starts there!
If you approve of this message (sorry but it is the political season) then leave me a comment and I will share more winter hints in between the tropics.
Take care.

I want more weather hint please i am tired of the tropics and this hot dry weather BORING i want excitment SNOW WIND COLD that’s what i want. OH and I’m ready for SANTA CLAUS……..
I approve your message Chris!
I’d like to hear some hints from mothere nature. What are some of the signs she has to offer? You know those old wives tales we hear. Anyone have any of those?
Every system seems to miss Kentucky; the winter dome is in effect now.
Keeping the fall and winter nuggets coming, Chris. Let’s hope we can get some moisture with all that cold weather.
GM All. Now that Gustauv has passed NOLA, are we gonna see any of it’s rain???? I drove to Owen County yesterday and my mother was saying how dry it was. I told her she should come and see southern Franklin County. At least there was a hint of green in the fields of Owen Co., only brown fields here (and I’m not seeing dirt) lol
Thanks, Chris…VERY interesting maps…will we see the end of the infamous snowdome???
I hope we get some good ones this year. WE have a new addition to the family and he should be old enough to take sledding this winter :).
It’s not just at my house…stats show that as of August 1, Louisville and Lexington both were running above average on precip. for the year. August finished up below average, so I haven’t seen the new numbers for 2008 to see where we are. But the point is, there might be localized areas where it’s dry…but as a whole 2008 has been WET. We’ve been lucky, but like I was saying yesterday, nature keeps a balance and it will now start to dry up to counter the last several months. We may still stay out of drought status, but it’s going to be much drier in the coming months…
I may be reading this wrong but the maps seem to show above normal temps in canada. Doesn’t a good snow pack in that area mean that we will be cold? Any way thanks for the nuggets Chris!
Chris! I LOVED the message about the winter nugget! Especailly during all this tropical stuff! And I approved this reply. 😉
Thanks Chris for the inspirational message. We do have hope. This hot, dry weather is bothering me. I am ready for the sweater weather, jeans, corduroys and wools.
I am ready for Fall and definately for rain! I hope it is not a long hard cold winter… how many of us got pay raises that are keeping up with the rising costs? Better start planning now and get prepared!
Bring on the cool mornings and evenings and crisp Fall breezes. Bring on Pumpkin Pie and Apple Cider!
If it is going to be colder this winter- it had better snow!
I approve of this message, I am sick of this weather as well… COME ON 90+ for several days in a row now its SEPTEMBER for crying out loud !! time for cool crisp mornings and breezy clear sunny days…leading up to frosty morning, leaves changing… and SNOW !!!
of course we approve of this message! lol
here is a winter prediction for you- a significant winter storm will occur in central kentucky during the week of January 10.
How do I know? Because I will be out of the country. 😉
How long until this ridge of high pressure goes away and allows us to get some rain???
It is so depressing to see what’s left of Gustov so close to our west and yet not heading our way. 🙁
I can handle the heat but I hate seeing everything dead and brown.
amen, KP, this stupid wave after wave of high pressure is getting on my nerves. Go park over Arizona or something. Weather pattern has got to change soon.
sept and oct our our driest months on avg, we will stay dry through the fall. long range models show things getting wetter by dec.
hannah has shifted east east and east again on today’s model runs, which leaves us out again.
any of you are welcome to leave weather ques etc. on my site( click on name) saturday from 12-12:30 when i will be answering them live.
Yes, we approve Chris. Bring us some more hints of the upcomming winter.
Chris, I want to thank you for all that you do. I have looked at some other weatherblogs, just out of curiosity, and you are the only one who consistently provides current and relavent information. I can’t thank you enough. By the way, I definately approve of the winter/fall nuggets.
Can you imagine what those remnants of Gustav would be if it were winter and that was SNOW?!!!
I had an Uncle who used to say that the number of foggy mornings we have in September equals the number of big snows in the winter.
Up for the year doesn’t mean much when for the last three months we’ve been below normal. It’s much drier at my house than it was during the drought last year. It’s not looking good for many of us.
patty: the SNOWDOME would rule again!!!!
Ike now a major hurricane, not good news for the SE US.
