Hi all. I am pretty sure many of you are tired of talking about Tropical Storm Fay. But… the weather is soooo boring around here so I have to focus my weather nerdness toward something! ![]()
Fay is just about to move offshore into the Atlantic. Here is a radar view…
Just how far will this storm get offshore before it slows down and heads back across the sunshine state? That will be the main story to track today. It doesn’t look like it will get more than a hundred or miles offshore before it turns around and heads toward Jacksonville… probably as a hurricane. Here is a look at the latest hurricane models…
Fay will likey work SLOWLY back to the west through Friday. This will put down a tremendous amount of rain with parts of florida seeing well over a foot of rain.
Can it get back over gulf waters? Yep… that’s looking like a good possibility right now and it may try to head west toward the FL panhandle or even as far west as New Orelans.
After that… it will try to come our way.
In the short term… temps are going to heat up around here with some low 90s possible through the end of the week.
A front will move in over the weekend with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms and cooler temps. Then we will focus on any possible impact from Fay.
I will update again by early afternoon. Take care.

Thanks for the update Chris. Man, Fay may hold the record for number of separate U.S. landfalls before all is said and done. Hopefully, things won’t get too bad for the folks in northern Florida and southern Georgia. I know those areas need rain, but too much of a good thing is bad.
The last post ended not too long after I posted this comment. I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts.
I am surprised that Fay strengthened any over land earlier today (albeit only a little). I know tropical systems must have warm water in order to maintain or increase in intensity. I have to wonder if the close proximity to Lake O. and the terrain of southern Florida played any role. I am only thinking outloud and may be wrong. Chris, or anyone else, do you have any thoughts?
Chris……..We’re not at all board watching Fay. You know all us weather freaks never get tired of talking weather, even if it’s not happening here. I do wonder though, what the odds would be of KY getting anything from this if we were betting on this in Vegas.
Thanks Chris for the update.
Patty in Vegas I would say they would give us 60/40 odds lol
Fay is definitely more interesting to talk about than the weather around the bluegrass state. This is one unique storm.
