Good evening folks! I wanted to drop by with a quickie update on Tropical Storm Fay. This is a pretty awesome storm in that it has been over land for roughly 13 hours and is stronger than ever!
Check out the eye on this thing…
It will be cruising off the east coast of Florida later tonight into early Wednesday. It should then increase to hurricane strength… sit there a few days before turning back toward Jacksonville. The models have all come around to showing somthing very similar now…
For us… we will have to wait until late weekend or early next week to see what’s left of this storm. We are definatly in the game though to get something from this.
Poor Florida! This is going to get ugly folks.
Another update later tonight. Take care.

Thanks Chris my Sister lives near the GA FL border keeping an eye on this for sure
Wow! Chris. thanks for the update. I have two sisters that live almost directly due north of where the eye is at this time. they both live in Titusville, in Brevard county. I was very afraid for them earlier today when I heard about the tornado in that county. I did find out a short time later that it was in Melbourne, which is farther south of them (about an hour.)
I am really going to be keeping an eye on this one for sure. it has been a long time since I have seen a storm like this!
I will be closely watching this, and reading your updates on it.
Andy Rose, I hope your sister is alaright. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers, as I hope you will mine, too.
I find it very odd that a tropical system can strengthen over land (albeit just by a little bit). I know tropical systems require warm water to maintain or increase in strength. I have to wonder if Fay passing close to Lake O. and the terrain of south Florida has any influence on Fay maintaining its intensity. Perhaps I am thinking foolishly. Chris, do you have any thoughts?
Andy and Coffeelady, I hope your sisters are ok. Hopefully, Fay won’t flex her muscles too much over the Atlantic.
hey gang, looks like fay has been defying the odds and strengthening over land all day… looks like it could move off shore late tonight or tomorrow. will it become a Hurricane?? good question. I know we could use some rain here in my part of the state its starting to get pretty dry again and things are getting brown, at least the growing season is about over. but it doesnt bode well for forest fires.
Thanks Chris…folks, PRAY for those who are in the path of this storm. PRAY also for the dry spell to stop here in much of Kentucky.
I am surprised that Fay strengthened any over land earlier today (albeit only a little). I know tropical systems must have warm water in order to maintain or increase in intensity. I have to wonder if the close proximity to Lake O. and the terrain of southern Florida played any role. I am only thinking outloud and may be wrong. Chris, or anyone else, do you have any thoughts?
I checked the 11pm update after my last post and it looks like Fay is succumbing to the effects of land (down to 50mph sustained winds), but it is getting close to the coast (coming up on I-95 between Vero Beach and Roseland). The forecast models still seem to be split between mainly a westward movement or more northern movement after making the next landfall.
