Good Monday afternoon everyone. I wanted to drop in for a quick update on Tropical Storm Fay as it gets ready to slam through the Florida Keys.
The National Hurricane Center and the NCEP models sites are both down. Nice job by our federal government to keep the servers up!
Never fear… the blog is here for you with the latest information.
Here is the latest sat pic…

Hurricane Warnings and Tropical Storm Warnings are out for much of Florida. Here is the map…

The latest NHC track still brings this storm toward Kentucky this coming weekend…

Tampa looks to be in the clear as Fay should come ashore well to the south of the Bay area. Climo is hard to beat my friends!
ALL the models now take this storm to just offshore from Jacksonville, Fl and stall it out for a few days. They show it increasing in strength again before moving west or even southwest back across Florida and back into the Gulf. After that… it would eventually head our way.
This is going to be a lot of fun to track… but Florida is going to take a pounding this week.
I will update again later today.
Take care.
Thanks Chris for the update…keep us posted.
It is good to have someone around these parts that is reliable. Can’t look to much else when it comes to weather. Thanks Chris.
NHC site is back up. Looking at the 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. model runs, it appears Fay may be with us for a while. Several of the models have her emerging into the Atlantic, then moving west and back into the Gulf. That scenario would be very similar to what happened in 1985 with Elena. Elena eventually went in on the Miss Coast as a strong three. I had moved there the day before it hit. The eye and eyewall went right over top of me. Quite an experience.
