Good very early Saturday morning to one and all. After sitting on their hands for more than 24 hours and refusing to classify our tropical system as a tropical depression… the National Hurricane Center decided just to skip that stage of it and name it a Tropical Storm Friday evening. Amazing.

Enough of that… let’s deal with where this storm may be heading and just how strong it can become. Here is a sat shot of Fay around from around midnight…

Fay has actually strengthened while over Hispanolia. A storm has to have a good setup from top to bottom to actually become stronger while over land.

A couple of things are becoming apparent. This storm is heading farther south and west from what the models have been showing over the past few days. This likely means Fay will get into the Gulf of Mexico and has a good chance to develop into a very intense hurricane. Here is the NHC forecast map…

All available hurricane models have shifted course in brining this storm into the eastern Gulf by early next week…

We have to see if this westward trend in the models continues. The farther west we can get this storm into the cental gulf… the better shot we have here in Kentucky of getting what’s left of it. That would likely not happen until late next week or weekend.

It will be interesting to watch how this all plays out. I will have multiple updates on this storm over the weekend so make sure you check back.

The weather here in Ky is looking good into early next week. Highs will hit the low to mid 80s this weekend with lows in the 50s. A 90 is possible next week… that all depends on what Fay does.

More updates later Today… take care.
