Good Thursday afternoon everyone. Before I get to the tropics and what could be a MAJOR hurricane threat to the us over the next several days… I want to talk about our weather for a bit.
A front is settling southward into the region and will spark scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through Friday. Some of the storms could become strong with hail the main threat to go along with some locally heavy rains. Temps Today will be mainly in the lower 80s but will be a bit warmer in the south. Friday will see more clouds so thermometers will be lower with upper 70s and low 80s.
The weekend generally looks dry with highs low and mid 80s. Next week’s weather wil grow wetter but a lot of it will have to do with what is going on in the tropics.
The blog has been harping and harping on the tropics ramping up by the middle of the month. This appears to be the case as we have what could grow into a major hurricane that closes in on the southeastern US coast early next week. Here is a look at the system in question…

As amazing as it sounds… this is not yet a storm. The National Hurricane Center is sitting on their cans not doing their jobs as this is CLEARLY a depression or low end tropical storm. It amazes me that they are looking at the same stuff and just sitting there. Wow! Upgrade this thing to what everybody else in the weather world knows it to be… a depression or storm! There… I fell better now! ![]()
The hurricane models take this storm toward the Bahamas over the weekend and have it sitting off the Florida coast by Tuesday. Here is a look at just a sampling of the forecast tracks..
The NAM has been all over this storm since it got within its range and has been VERY consistant. Here is what it looks like Sunday night…
The NAM has had a good year with tropical systems so it is wise to take stock in what it shows.
This storm will likely grow into a major Hurricane. Anyone from Flordia to North Carolina needs to be on guard for a possible landfall next week. Some of the models are actually pulling a Floyd with this storm by taking it to the FL coast then riding it all the way up to North Carolina.
Stay tuned… I will have another update coming later today.
Take care.

I’m thinking they will skip depression status and go straight to TS
Thanks Chris for the update…do you think that any of the tropical systems’ remnants will hit Kentucky?
Chris I am curious with William will ky get in on any of the hurricane or ts leftovers?????
Randy I love the graphics keep them coming I am with Chris that storm deserves at least a TS status!!!
No question that the storm is already FAY. One of the NAM runs yesterday had it plowing over the Keys and into the Gulf as a cat 3. The models seem to be hinting at more of a right turn now. We’ll see.
Nice little storm rolling through Gtown right now. Moderate rain for the past 30 minutes, breezy, and some cloud to ground lightning. Nothing severe but it is bringing MUCH needed rain here.
storms missed us in versailles. chris it’s time to give it’s all about the impact speach to the hurricane center fay has already formed in terms of wind and rain activity, but multiple center postions have them holding back for some reason, this will resolve it’s self soon.
new euro tracks the center from florida to alabama which would produce some rain around here.
thanks Chris for the update, i would like to watch your forecast on wsaz but i am not picking it up, i am doing something wrong with my site?
Recon has been out investigating 92L over the last little bit. Seems they have found sustained TS-force winds and a closed circulation. However, there was no vortex message issued (usually issued when a tropical cyclone has developed) so I don’t know if there are any plans to upgrade soon or not. I understand at times NHC is hesitant to upgrade a system, but in a case like this where it is in close proximity to land and will most likely continue to be for the duration of its life span, I think it would be best if it was upgraded to a TS. Just my opinion – and of course, I’m not the one making $$$ at this… LOL!
Hey Chris…..We finally got a brief shower just now here in Versailles, after several storms all around us produced zilch! I’m sure my tomatoes loved it, so I’m not gonna complain, but I wished we had a little more.
Hi All. Thanks for the update Chris. We will be up your way this weekend. We are camping at Greenbo State Park. I hope the rain is gone by Friday night. Maybe I can pick up your forecast at WSAZ on my little TV/Radio/Weather Radio/Siren/Light….LOL one of those gadgets. Have a good weekend everyone!
