Good Monday morning everyone! Here is hoping each of you had one heck of a weekend. I know it was a good one as far as the weather was concerned as we had a nice little taste of September. The weather of late has been making the famed “dog days of summer” look more like this…
There are soooo many things wrong with that picture.
But, you get the idea of what I am talking about… this August has been rather wimpy so far and that looks to continue this week.
We are starting off this new week with another well below normal day. Temps this morning should be flirting with record lows across parts of the area. Lexington’s record low is 54 set back in 1967. We will likely be within striking distance of that. I hope it bites the dust, myself!
Low and mid 50s everywhere to start out our Monday. Can I get an upper 40? I will definatly be on the lookout for one since I have been all over this cool snap for a while now.
Highs later on Today will top out in the upper 70s in the north and east to a low 80 in the south and west. Sunny skies will rule.
Clouds will be on the increase later Tuesday as highs temps hit the low 80s after another start in the 50s.
The clouds increasing will be in response to a storm system coming out of the deep south. This will take a track to our south and east giving us only a glancing blow at rain chances with the best chance in the east and south. Take a look…
NAM Wednesday Morning
NAM Wednesday Evening
That track means temps Wednesday could have a hard time cracking 80 in some areas due to a northeast wind and some clouds and showers.
Here is a look at the upper air charts for later this week…
That does not look very much like August!!! The setup above argues for a monster closed low pressure system across the Mississippi River Valley late week into the weekend. It is one that will bring an increase in humidity levels and ran and thunderstorm chances to the state during this time. Temps will rebound into the low and mid 80s… but that all depends on clouds and rain.
Heat lovers are hating this summer. Oh well… better luck year!!! ![]()
The tropics are going to crank over the next two weeks and this is something the blog has been on since we issued the August forecast back in late July.
I am going to be doing some work on the blog over the next few weeks as well to get it ready for the prime time fall and winter months ahead of us. Hard to believe we will soon be talking about winter. Say what? Oh… well… we have talked about it a lot this summer so never mind!
haha
BTW… if anyone is having some problems with the blog please email me at chrisbaileyweather@yahoo.com.
Have a great Monday and I will update you again later in the day. Take care.

48 degrees here in Staffordsville this AM. Man o man, it’s cold outside.
Thanks Chris for the update…Folks, enjoy this GOOD weather while it lasts.
chris….What a cute picture! Is that a family pet or just a picture you found?
You won’t hear me complaining about the weather. It’s just about as perfect as you can get as far as I’m concerned.
Did anyone catch the men’s swim relays last night? It was the most exciting thing I’ve seen in past olympic years!
Good MOnday morning, Chris, and thanks for the update! I know this is out of the norm for August, but I am still suspecting we will pay for it at some point. Of course, I could be wrong! 😉
I don’t like what you are say ing about the tropics, as my Florida trip is only about 4 weeks away now. Hopefully, this is one time your farsightedness won’t pan out! (At least not until we get back!)
Looking forward to the forecast for the fall. And to the upcoming winter. Chris, I am not trying to start something, but the last time I can remember it being this pleasant at this time of year, (similar weather patterns, I mean) was in 1976-77. And you KNOW what kind of winter we had then! Hmmmmm…….maybe the cycle is coming around to our way of thinking? I know, I know, it’s way too early to tell.
Just do me a favor and hold the rain off until Wednesday, or Thursday. We are staining our deck this evening, and I need it to stay dry until IT is dry! 😀 !
LMAO at that POOR DOG !!! Chris seems to always manage to find the craziest looking pics….lol…
The weather is nothing short of absolutely WONDERFUL this Monday morning. I actually got to drink my coffee on the screen porch ,without melting from smothering humidity.. I just wonder if this nice cool August weather is a foretaste of what’s to come later this fall and winter…HMMM!! I’m geared up and ready for the snow. I wonder if I should think about getting a fourwheel drive this yr…LOL… NAHHH, it’ll jinx the weather if I do that…
not to mention my wallet to. later gang.
no problems today chris. record low of 53 at LEX this morning.
50 degrees this morning in southern Jackson County.
Chris,
Thanks for all your hard work. I am loving this weather. Cute pup picture.
I hope the lower temps. stay in place for the kids that start school this week. Thanks again for keeping us informed in central KY.
Yes, Patty, that relay was awesome wasn’t it? Were you also as impressed with the opening ceremonies as I was. The next country hosting will have a big challenge to top that!
And I love, love, love this weather…… Thanks for keeping us updated Chris.
Everyone have a fabulous Monday 🙂
back in ky, it feels like mid or late sept this morning!!! this is great weather CB keep it comin!!!!!!!
I love summer…and this cool stuff is killing me. I wanna go back to the bahamas, where the heat index never made it under 100. YES!!!!
Patty, I was trying to go to sleep and then I heard how excited the announcer was getting so I had to watch. It was sure exciting. I hate that they are on so late. It would be nice for the kids to get to watch them, but with school in session they should be in bed early. When does your son go back to WKU? Have a good one!
this cool weather is reminding me of fall…after fall is winter…lol… Im ready for a snowstorm….. waist deep in snow sounds good to me!
