Good Saturday afternoon my fellow bloggers. Welcome to one heck of a weather weekend here in the bluegrass state of Kentucky. Our Frday was nothing short of awesome and Today is shaping up to be even better!
I have trumpeted the cool temps for several days now. It was yesterday that some of friends at the NWS decided to lower overnight temps to below the 60 degree mark in their forecasts.
Lows this morning were down into the low to mid 50s across most of the region. The lowest I could find was a 51 in Stearns in McCreary Co and a 52 in both Mt. Sterling and Sandy Hook. Not bad at all for this time of the year. Record lows for this date are in the low 50s for the official reporting stations so we were close.
The below normal temps will continue for several more days and will be reenforced by another front that will slip in Sunday. Here is a look at the setup on our water vapor map…
You see our front across the lakes… it will head in over the next 24 hours. This will bring a chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm Sunday. Winds will pick up as well. That front will also keep that deep moisture to our west from moving in as it will slide off to the southeast.
Highs this afternoon in the upper 70s to around 80 look good. Sunday will start milder than today because of our front moving in. Lows will be in the upper 50s to near 60. With some increase in clouds and the front moving through… highs Sunday will be tricky. Areas ahead of the front will see low 80s while those behind it stay in the 70s. It’s all about the location of the front during the afternoon.
Monday morning can be another very cool one with temps back into the 50-55 range. Highs will hit the upper 70s to low 80s yet again.
Temps will begin to climb next week toward seasonal norms. We should also begin to see the pattern take on a more showery look and one that will eventually grow into a wet one as we go into the last couple of weeks of August.
If you are looking for heat… you might as well give it up. It just isn’t going to happen. Hmmm…. I think a certain summer forecast is looking pretty good right now!

Thanks Chris for the update. I am loving this mild September-like weather.
Yes, it’s definitely beautiful around here. Love it!
Hey gang, hope everyone has been enjoying the FALL like weather as much as I have. It’s nice to be able to cut the A.C. off and open the windows for some fresh air..Would’nt hurt my feelings one bit if this kind of weather took us right into winter..
With this cool fall like weather, I know someone is gonna be grilling some good ole BBQ ribs tomorrow….LOL… I havent got my invitation yet..LOL..LOL..
Chris……..I really like that forcast. It’s music to my ears, errr I mean eyes. I’ve had it with the heat!!
I’m just lovin’ it! This whole summer has been quite nice, although maybe a tad dry. But it sounds like Chris believes that’s gonna change soon. Works for me! Thanks Chris! So glad I can still get your forecast.
Good Morning all. I have just gotten back from vacationing in Florida. We were right on the beach. It was beautiful with a wonderful ocean breeze the whole time we were there. We had great weather coming home and then when I got home to these cooler temps it was heavenly. Nice to go but nice to get back home. Tomorrow is the first day of school for most teachers. For the first time in 27 years, I won’t be among them. Little pull at my heart but I think that sleeping past 8 in the morning will cure that heart ache! To all you teachers out there getting ready for tomorrow, retirement is worth the work. You are working, not just for a paycheck, but the years beyond. Most teachers I know are not in it for the paycheck but for those bright eyes and smiles that appear when a concept is learned. I’ll be thinking of you but enjoying this wonderful weather outside. 🙂
Chris you hit this forecast dead on!!!! I love it.Give some outlook for fall!!!! The USA is looking good in China!!!!!!!!!!
welcome home Sharon! I know you had a good time on vacation. I went in June, the difference is I HATED coming home! I would live on the beach if I could. I’d have to be a beach bum though! I came back because I like to pay bills and eat! LOL!
Crystal……I’ve enjoyed watching the olympics off and on all weekend. I’ve also been lovin’ the weather as well! I saw on the radar your storm and wondered if it had hit Pikeville. There were some big time ones up north. My sister was delayed in Cincy most of the day for a flight to NY city because of the weather.
Thanks Patty. I wasn’t on the beach that much this time. My parents went with us. Mother can’t go to the beach because she is really too feeble. Dad went 1 time. They don’t like to go out to eat so we just spent a lot of time on the balcony. It is 6 floors up and pretty large corner wrap around. I decided I was going to do only what they want to do. Don’t know how many times they will get to make that trip. I was ready to come home. It was a lot of work for me. But I’m thankful I still have them.
