Good afternoon, everyone. Our extreme winter continues across the bluegrass state as record highs are falling. Honestly… I have never seen a winter with such extreme swings as the one we are in now. Guess what? That’s probably gonna continue into the first half of March.
Rain is on the way late tonight into Sunday. Some thunder and lightning is even possible. Locally heavy downpours are possible across the Interstate 64 corridor and north…
Other models have that axis of heaviest rain just a littler farther north. If it sets up where that model run suggests, local high water issues will be possible.
The storm system rolling in from late Tuesday through Thursday continues to look like a potent winter storm system. I’m liking how the (gulp) GFS is handling this system right now…
That scenario could bring heavy rain, high winds and a round of snowfall to the region…
I will update this system later tonight. Enjoy the evening and take care.
Being in the Louisville area, we`re hearing mid 40`s all week and rain Wednesday and Thursday. But they are saying we`ll watch it. With the low up the mountains, that is usually the path for a lot of snow in our area, we just need the cold air.
This one is not to hard to figure out…too warm = rain…could get a snow shower on back end, but doesn’t amount to anything
thanks for putting the time of your posts.
Charleston guys are saying “We’ve seen the pictures too. NO BIG SNOWSTORM.” I guess they are getting inundated with the Facebook Forecasters crazy models.
Looks like a lot of rain ….but ya don’t see the Low pressure ride up the west side of the mountains very often ….
I know, thats the best path for a low to take, to give Kentucky a huge snowstorm. We`re just going to be tooooooo warm. Too bad this wasn`t January.
Thanks, Chris.
The thing about the rain is, when the temps drop below freezing, all the water will freeze. So, even if areas doesn’t see a large snowfall, icy roads and such will most likely be a problem.
As usual, huntington area mets are saying no snow for us.
After today’s low 70s….Im in full Spring Fever Mode!!
for the system next week upper level dynamic cooling is possible as the low cranks up along the mountains somewhere and could bring a band of very heavy snow on the rear flank of the storm, given the strong upper level dynamics involved we could see a good area of snowfall trailing behind the main system as some cold enough air is pulled down behind it, only time will tell.
