Good evening, everyone. Our big storm system is on track to bring some crazy weather to the bluegrass state in the coming days. We’ve been talking about a strong signal for some wild weather and a return of winter, and that signal is about to become a reality.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms move in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. That’s when the low pressure works right on top of Kentucky. Once it passes, rain quickly changes to snow from west to east…
That’s a big wind maker from Tuesday night through Thursday.
Rainfall totals could be hefty from Tuesday night through Wednesday evening…
Local high water issues are possible during this time.
A switch to snow takes place Wednesday evening into Wednesday night with plenty of wraparound moisture…
That’s from the European Model and suggests accumulating snows are likely. The GFS agrees…
Do I smell some snow days Thursday and Friday?
Thunderstorms and 60s to snow and temps near freezing in a 12-18 hour window. That’s the Kentucky weather we’ve come to know and love.
Looking down the road, here’s the arctic front that arrives late Sunday or Monday…
Yay. 🙁
I will have a full update later tonight. Enjoy the evening and take care.
I look forward to highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s with the wild weather talk being about chances for severe weather instead of snow chances…(No I dont beg for Tornadoes so lets just nip that in the bud now)….
Thanks Chris. I look forward to longer days with daylight left when I get home from work. That will come soon. As for this week, well I will just have to make the best of the situation we have. I’ll wear my tennis shoes to work tomorrow and go back to my work boots for the rest of the week. Whatever comes our way, my favorite weather guy will be on top of it, keeping us informed. Appreciate all you do Chris. Have a good Monday evening all.
Thanks for the update! I eagerly wait for each update and refresh Twitter feed all the time, lol.
Lol…did I detect a note of sarcasm in that last “Yay”? Thanks for the updates, Mr. Bailey.
A couple of Louisville mets are talking about a dusting…or melting on impact. Interesting how this will pan out.
Thanks Chris!!
This is one teacher that would welcome a couple last snow days with open arms! Everyone says, “But the kids will have to go longer…” Yeah, but being stuck in school on an 80 degree day at the end of May when you can go outside and have recess is better than weeks at a time of being stuck inside with hacking, snotty nosed, pink eye infected, 5-year-old grumps 😉 So yep, I’ll take one out two more snow days!
I’m with you. I need one or two more. I love the surprise day off. Breaks up the way after Xmas break seems to drag on and on
It sure does! Though I’m sure many counties that have been out consistently since Christmas would argue that they’re ready to give up the snow… those of us who have only had a couple snow days definitely need the breaks! Especially because all of the breaks we’re supposed to get in the next two months (except spring break) are now going to make up those other snow days 😉
Be glad you don’t have a regular job. Your expected to be there every day regardless.
Okay, I’ll bite on that one. I used to teach school and left it to get a “regular job”. I was so happy to have that “regular job” that went 40 to 50 hours a week, all year long, because it was so much easier, less stressful, and less time consuming than the teaching job.
I’ll bite too. I worked a regular job for many, many years of my life and then decided to become a teacher. I didn’t mind having to be at work when I didn’t get snow days because I knew that wasn’t a perk of my job. Now it is, and I’m certainly allowed to enjoy it. Teaching is a 10 month job for most of us, meaning we get paid for 10 months, 40 hour weeks despite the fact that unlike many other “regular” jobs we work a tremendous amount of unpaid time on our days “off” and during the summer (including planning time on snow days).
