Good Tuesday, everyone. Here comes our big Ohio Valley winter storm! This bad boy is going to bring some wild weather to our part of the world. So far, this appears to be a well behaved storm system in terms of how the models are handling it.
Our day starts with some showers across far southeastern Kentucky, with a mix of sun and clouds elsewhere. Clouds will quickly thicken this afternoon ahead of the big show. As our low inches closer to the region, widespread showers and thunderstorms increase this evening and continue into Wednesday morning…
That’s a lot of heavy rain that can cause some local high water issues. The rainfall numbers from the NAM…
Winds will also crank as the low works toward the region on Wednesday. As it works across the state, check out the amazing temperature ride…
Wow!
As temps crash from west to east, rain quickly changes to snow…
Strong northwesterly winds will be noted as widespread snows encompass much of the region into Thursday. With temps near the freezing mark, it will be a wet snow with some melting taking place. The GFS continues to be the most aggressive with the snow numbers and is very likely overdone…
I will have updates later today. Your tracking toys will keep you company until then…
Enjoy your Tuesday and take care.
Let the games begin, ladies, gentlemen, and LD! (Just kiddin’, buddy!) 😉
It appears for the third month in row, I am going to end with an above average monthly rainfall total with a current total at 5.72 near Harlan, KY. What? It is supposed to be dry, mild in the Ohio/Tennessee Valley region because of the strong El Nino! Okay, I am having too much fun blasting the media for hyping up the temps and precipitation forecasted this winter. Between both, the temps were a little warm and closer to what people state as “typical El Nino temps” but the reality is that those forecasts crammed down our throats were very inaccurate, irritating to say the least.
Thank you, CB, for a winter of accurately predicting seasonal snow, temps, and precipitation totals as, if I had been a novice at weather forecasting, would have never survived watching the main stream meteorologists make a joke out of the dry/mild winter predicted.
I prefer weather like this when I’m sick. OMG, I haven’t been sick in AGES, but I got this flu starting sunday night, my entire body felt like a migraine and I could not get warm for nothing….I feel so much better today but I’m still not 100 percent….I’ve been drinking v8 purple power and green power, drinking OJ, chix soup, and vit c…..
Shoveling when sick definitely ranks in the mega blehs. Snapchat snow FTW.
Hope you’re over that funk soon MarkLex.
Bless your heart. You’re definitely doing all the right things. If you’re having any congestion, you might want to add some hot tea with honey and lemon juice. Feel better soon!!!
From the sounds of everything I’ve gathered, majority of this snow will melt on impact and we will be lucky to have a dusting in the Ashland area? Thoughts?
CB…heading to Chicago this week. NWS Forecast Discussion an interesting read. Basically no idea if the metro area will get nothing or a lot. NW IN could.see a band of 8 or more inches. High wimds throughout the area. Curious your thoughts?
I’m leaving for Goshen, IN tomorrow and returning on Thursday. I wish they had a Chris Bailey up there so that I would know what I’m getting myself in to :/
Best snows near South Bend.
We’re hosting a charity event Saturday and needed our long gravel driveway smoothed out a bit after many, many potholes appeared. Two guys did the hard work last Thursday and I had to go open my big mouth and say, “As long as we don’t get heavy rain in the next ten days, we’re good!” ⛈⚡️❄️
Curious, Last night you threw out the idea of snow day thursday….you still think so??..this post don’t sound like it with alot of wet snow that won’t stick
This storm will hit shore later today and it will be interesting to see if the models hang tough with the track. There is no cold air in place the the models probably have a pretty could handle on it. Wish the cold coming with it would deepen quicker to give us a nice backlash snow. As I now it is trending to an all rain to dry event for most of KY?
Now I am upset, I was all excited about a “big” winter storm!! Ugh!
Umm… this is a big winter storm.
When will we see our first call for snowfall?
