Good Monday morning to everyone. What a stormy Sunday we are coming out of… numerous reports of damaging winds and hail across much of the area. It looks like our storm chances will be sticking around for a few more days.
Before we start looking ahead… let’s take a look at some cool pics. I call the first one… ‘Storming The Castle”…
That was taken by Scott Co EMS Director Jack Donovan. It is an awesome pic of a storm moving right over the famous castle on Versailles Road.
An equally nice pic was sent in by Don McGowan of Cynthiana…
It shows an amazing sunset following Sunday’s storms.
Let’s get into the week ahead now.
1. More showers and storms will be firing up later Today. Some of those could be strong or severe once again. In between the storms… the heat and humidity will really build. Highs will hit the low 90s AGAIN.
2. Tuesday and Wednesday look to be rather stormy days around here. We could get several waves of strong storms to move across the region. Very heavy rains will be a problem and could lead to some high water concerns.
3. Temps will be coming down big time for the middle and end of the week. Below normal temps and low humidity levels will be with us.
4. A storm last week to the month could be shaping up around here and this is something I am looking into. ![]()
5. The tropics are kicking! Cristobal is a weak little storm sitting off the Carolina coast and will be moving northward over the next few days. Bertha is dead but Dolly is ready to take center stage. It will be crossing the Yucatan Today and will emerge in the Gulf. Here is the latest track map from the Hurricane Center…
Notice they now expect this to become a hurricane and that is something we talked about over the weekend. I think this storm may really kick up it’s heels a bit and try to rapidly intensify before coming ashore near Brownsville, Tx.
It may also be in no big hurry to move much once it comes ashore.
6. My vacation is over as I officially join the ranks of the employed again Today. It’s my first day at WSAZ-TV. I will be doing some training on the weather system and taking care of some other things through Wednesday with my first day back on the air coming Thursday! Man… it’s been three weeks since I have been in front of a weather wall. I hope it’s like riding a bike!
Of course I had plenty of crashes on bikes well after I learned how to ride.
Take care everyone and I will update the blog a little later on.
Take care.

Folks just to say for those with the corded telephones, stay off of them during a storm. Mine got fried tonight during those nasty storms as a bolt of lightning stuck the utility pole that all utilities attach to before coming to the house, luckly I wasn’t on it and I was lucky also not to lose my computer and dsl modem. Glad that I had the phone hooked between the phone line and the modem. Talking about a big man jumping when I heard it hit and with it popping through the tv while I was watching the weather.
Thanks Chris for the update and the pics…Good luck at WSAZ!
Chris is there a possibility that Dolly could bring some well needed rain to Kentucky.
Since I am in the retired work force now, I can tell you that I changed work locations 4 times in 25 years but the same job. It WAS like riding a bike. What you do, you don’t forget how to do. Good luck in the new job. We miss you here. I will tell you that since I am now retired, my sleep habits are changing and I probably would have not seen you very much anyway. I do see TG and so in my mind, Chris was on the air and I slept through it.
Thanks, Chris for the update. We drove through a lot of wind last night. I don’t like storms, but we are needing some rain on the garden!
Thanks for the update and pics Chris. I hope you have a smooth transition to WSAZ.
AND dont forget about us over here at http://www.kentuckyweathercenter.com..lol.. SO Thursday is the BIG ON AIR DAY. I unfortunately don’t get WSAZ, But I hope to catch you on webtv.
I noticed yesterday on another weather outlet that the 15 day outlook for this area was showing highs in the 95-100 degree range several times…I hope that DOES NOT play out…thats what you call MISERABLE heat. Hopefully these tropical systems will keep things COOLER, and wet in the south where alot of places desperately need the rain
All of Central Kentucky is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8PM
There is a monster low coming off of Africa right now. If that turns into a storm, it has the possibility of impacting us here in the Bahamas this weekend, around the time the teams go home. Chris, if you could watch this and give your thoughts as well, it would be appreciated. I monitor the NWS site, but there’s nothing like a home grown opinion. 🙂 I’ll be back in Morehead around the 1st.
Peace,
nate
severe thunderstorm watch untill 8, good luck chris on your first day at work.

Good luck Chris at WSAZ I know they will all come to love you just like we do. I wish we was as lucky as they are getting you on the tube. I sure miss you I have not watch the morning show since you left.

SOUTHERN MCCREARY COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…
EAST CENTRAL WAYNE COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY…

Had some nasty thunderstorms moving through for the past couple of hours, with cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain with small hail.. I appear to be on the eastern edge of the storms, they are moving more to my west and south but not without dumping some needed rain on the yard and garden…2 days in a row now…
Kind of ironic. I was mowing the grass earlier and the thermometer said it was 97*… and the humidity was thick enough to cut with a knife…now its raining and the temp. is 75* HOW REFRESHING !!!
cristobal about to become a hurricane, and dolly expected to be a cat. 2 before making landfall on the southern coast of Texas…
we’ve had some fairly impressive storms this evening down here in southern ky. It was HOT and Humid earlier and my thermometer said it was 97* around 2pm. then the storms rolled in and rain cooled air has it down to 75*. Very heavy rain and cloud to ground lightning was observed by ME!!…lol… I dont like the lightning… at one point there was some soft hail in the rain also… where I live in east whitley the storms seem to just graze my area but it was enough to wet the garden and yard for the second day in a row…
HA had to drive from Corbin to b ville to find any wet pavement Tim we had this discussion about hogging the weather
Hey Chris….You’ll be just fine in front of that camera again. You’re a professional remember? It’ll all come back once the lights come on and you get your que!
I took a picture of that same cloud in the picture of the castle.)I live 5 minutes from there) Of course mine wasn’t as dramatic as the castle pic!
We managed not to get a drop of rain here at mine house then and none out of those clouds this afternoon either! Bummer!
Hi Every1. Good luck Chris with the new position. I’m sure you will do wonderful. We have missed all the rain the last few days, but haven’t missed the heat and humidity. I’m hoping to take the kids fishing Wednesday. Are these storms going to be hit and miss, or an all day affair. I love the new site. I’ve been checking in on TG’s site some too, he’s doing a good job. Talk to you all later. Try and stay cool! 😉
Tim quit hogging the rain lol!!!!! Once again we missed out in Pike ville and Pike county and its so miserable hot!!
I am lucky I will still get Chris on Wsaz.Chris wont you and Tg be on at the same time???
Well they said the way Dolly is heading it will spare the oil wells they were more at galvensten and that area.
I like your style, the fact that your site is a little bit different makes it so interesting, I get fed up of seeing same-old-same-old all of the time. I’ve just stumbled this page for you 😀
