Good evening, folks. Heavy rain and a few thunderstorms are quickly increasing from south to north across the region. This may cause some local high water issues to develop tonight and early Wednesday. I’m a little surprised we don’t see more of the state under a Flood Watch. Only the far north is currently under the watch.
The rest of the forecast remains unchanged with a quick temperature drop from west to east on Wednesday. That means the rain changes to snow pretty fast and that carries us through Thursday on a strong northwesterly flow. The GFS isn’t giving up on putting slushy accumulations down for the entire region…
I still think that’s overdone, but we shall see.
Winds, winds, winds. Gusts could top 40mph or better on Wednesday with even higher gusts possible on Thursday. That looks like a nasty winter weather day.
I leave you with your trackers…
Enjoy the evening and take care.
Thanks, Chris. This looks like its going to be a slushy mess.
The middle of next week looks interesting. Charleston NWS mentioned a Colorado Low forming and traveling to the Ohio Valley. I hadn’t heard of that before. So, I googled it. Wow, it seems like winter doesn’t want to leave!
Comical. …Hey Hey Hey a week away!!!
Is there a specific time frame that the rain will turn to snow on wednesday?
a week ago this “storm” was looking like a big snowstorm….now the gfs is saying 2 or 3 inches and that seems overdone…haha….this is a prime example of how great the models are a week away …complete garbage (:
As Mr. Albert would..Hey Hey Hey a week away
Yeah, you can’t put your trust in the models long range, even if there is significant agreement. Some would not consider a week a way long range, but sometimes, 12 hours out can make a huge difference. Chris and other good meteorologists have their work cut out for them, especially during the winter!
Now, this storm is even farther west than what most models were showing yesterday. A week ago, some of the models had this low close to 1,000 miles east of this track–amazing and aggravating at the same time!!!
During the last storm “everyone” was talking about how terrible the GFS has been all year so why are we looking at it now all of a sudden?
Hi Chris I Enjoy Watching You! I Was Wondering How Much Snow We Can Expect For Ironton Ohio.
Thanks For The Updates
Half inch at best I’m guessing for CKY. This will be a big windy rain maker and a weak snow maker. Next week will be more of the same. Sounds like we are in for these little teaser snows through mid March. I’m over it and ready for Spring and severe weather season.

Catch that snow on Arkansas storm chaser. Lol!
