Good Sunday, everyone. Thermometers are slowly on the increase across the region as springtime weather takes control for a while. The setup for the next few weeks is one that can also deliver rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
Today will feature temps nearing 60 in the west and southwest with upper 40s to low 50s in the north and east. Clouds will continue to thin, and that means some sun will try to take over.
We will still have to fight some clouds on Monday as temps head into the 60s for the entire state. From there, we find temps threatening to hit the 70s on days where you get more sun than storms…
The setup for the next week to 10 days is one that will feature above normal temperatures and ample moisture surging in from the Gulf of Mexico. Per my last post, this can actually be traced all the way back to the Pacific Ocean.
Check out the dew point temperatures for later in the week…
That’s a ton of juice and we will likely see a significant rain and flood event unfolding across the Mississippi River Valley. Some of this action will work into our region. Here’s an approximate look at the best chance for the heavy rain numbers…
Given the extreme setup, the models will be all over the place on the heavy rain axis, and the overall daily depiction of thunderstorm clusters.
Make it a great Monday and take care.
How long should the warmth last?
Most of the models are in agreement and keep the significant rainfall away from Eastern and Southeastern KY through most of next week which should allow the warmest air to concentrate in my neck of the woods. If the high pressure dome sets up like it is being predicted now, some areas in far Eastern KY will likely near 80 degrees with a few records threatened, especially if a lot of clouds are held at bay!
80 is a bit much this time of year for me. But after that last snow that hit the way it did I will take it and hopefully the rain will miss my area for a bit.
Happy Sunday all. Great to see the sun out today. I’m ready for a nice warmup, rain and all.
Thanks Chris.
NWS in there latest discussion is just as of now not to concern with the rain, there thinking is the heaviest rain will fall south and west of Kentucky. A general 1-3 inch rainfall is possible mid week through the weekend but apparently nothing to be overly concerned about. Temps in the 70’s I’ll take it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the warm weather is coming but I’m a little concerned about March 21st as it appears on that day the temps will be heading down in the 50s in the day and 30s at night with mabey a shot of snow 🙁 …I most certainly hope not
