Good Monday afternoon gang. I wanted to drop by for a quick update on where we stand in regards to the showers and thunderstorms working into the area. These storms have been dropping south southeast out of Indiana. Parts of central and southern Kentucky will have the greatest risk for heavy rains and strong storms this afternoon.
While this group of boomers had been weakening out earlier… it should refire as the day wears on. Other showers and thunderstorms will increase across the rest of the state as well. With plenty of moisture to work with… heavy rains will be a problem. Temps will only make it into the middle 80s Today and probably for Tuesday as well as we should be seeing other storms around.
This is going to be a stormy week and next couple of weeks for that matter. Keep an eye on Wednesday and Thursday as we could be talking about some high water problems from widespread showers and storms.
Fasten those seatbelts as the weather is going to be active for the first week of the new blog and I have all the time in the world to update it. Giddy up!
I will have another full update coming later this evening so check back. Of course… I could throw in a storm update at any time!!! Muwhahahaaha.
Take care.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR BELL COUNTY UNTIL 2:15
I look forward to your new blog. Congrats on the new job and move…..
Can’t wait to see what you do with this. Have a great day
Strong storm moving through Casey into Lincoln and Pulaski.
the NWS has this for the forcast for my area this afternoon
This Afternoon: Partly cloudy, with a high near 89. West southwest wind around 5 mph.
also, in the forcast in a glance section, it says mostly sunny. and high 89. when i see a forcast like that, i assume it’s not gonna rain. but looking at the desktop radar i have, and looking at other radars online, you can bout guess its gonna rain. i think the NWS needs to change the forcast for this afternoon to at least a 20 or 30 percent chance of showers and t-storms.
Thanks for the update, Chris…love the new site.
Thanks for the update, Chris! I love this new site, and the fact that I can get email notifications when you post or update! I think your new blogsite is going to get broken in right, if what you said holds true!
It is getting rather cloudy here right now, and the radar looks like we may see some rain before long. That is alright with me, as we can use some.
Right now, we are sitting at 88 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies, and the winds picking up a bit.
Chris, I love the new blog. I’m glad that you are keeping it going. I rarely post but read all the time. Good luck with your new job.
Chris, thanks so much for the update!
I am loving the new site! And, love the fact that you now have such artistic freedom to do all these wonderful things that you have planned!
A quick question, please. We are planning a trip from Lexington to Louisville later this afternoon – are we going to run into problems with travel?
Looks like the models are pointing to a stormy night in the Bluegrass, which NWS is ignoring again. Tomorrow appears to be a very good shot at rain to me. Chris is going to stay busy even though he is on ‘break’ right now. 🙂
thanks chris. what’s up with the security codes?
Thanks Chris! Love the new site!
Bertha is now a category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 mph. If that ridge that they are forecasting to erode does not, its going to get interesting for the folks on the Atlantic seaboard by Sunday or so.
Just my 2 cents to test my ability to post on here!
Mitch,
the security code is used to make sure a human is posting. There are “bots” out on the net that can spam blogs and message boards. The security code picture prevents this.
I’m heading to Destin Florida on Saturday. Just wondering how this hurricane is going to affect that area. Any thoughts?
Thanks Chris for creating this blog.
Thanks, CB. Just checked out TG’s first blog statement. I’m sure he will do well.
Gang i think Shawna should take us all to Destin with her!!!!!!!!! lol what do you guys think???????? Thanks Chris for the updates stay cool!!!!!!!
Hey Chris!!
Love the new blog!! I will be here everyday. I just went to Tg’s blog and it is going ot be great to. He has big shoes to fill but I believe he can do it. Thanks so much for keeping us in central Kentucky updated on severe weather. I live in Casey County and I didnt know there was a strong storm headed our way until you posted it so thanks so much!!
Micah/ Casey County
Hey CB! Good start to the site my man, I’ll be on here daily making sure you don’t leave eastern KY out! Take care.
It is Hot in Mt. Sterling. It is great to have such didicated weather watchers in Kentucky. As I mentioned on T.G’s blog my wife and I do not like severe storms and use the blog(s) to help us keep up to date on what is hapening around us.
Bert..Thanks for your reply to Mitch. I always wondered what those security codes did. Now I know!!
I am loving the new blog setup, Chris! 🙂
We had an “interesting” day here in Laurel Co today. I was at work (Wal-Mart) when a strong thunderstorm rolled through. Our phone lines ended up going down. They were still down when I left around 6pm. Not fun!
Being the hurricane fanatic that I am, I’m keeping an eye on what Bertha does. I have family in NC so I’m hoping she makes the turn on back out to sea. Of course, as feederband mentioned, right now it’s a matter of whether or not the ridge holds up. We shall see…
Chas good to hear from you long time no hear lol. marsha i see you got straightened out i am glad!!!!!
Dave L i hope you and your wife dont get severe storms.Me i am a weather nut and storm nut snow and rain i use too sit on my dads lap as a little girl on the porch during a storm i would be amazed my mom would be telling my dad bring her in.I would be a storm chaser if i could lol!!!I dont ever wish anyone damage or harm from a storm never ever.My husband had a hard time keeping me from going outside when we were in a cat 1 hurricaine in fl.I have always liked adventure maybe too much.I would be hanging off a phone pole like dan rather did if i could but my hubby has the good sense to stop me!!!!!!! You just have to know to respect a storm and that it can change quickly.stay safe everyone.
Chris, I hope we are talking about some high water problems on a small scale of course. My parents live in Casey County about 5-6 miles northwest of Liberty and have had about 2 inches of rain since late April. Other parts of the county have received much more, but it is getting REALLY dry there.
Hi All. Glad to see the new site up and going with all us weather nuts. I looked in on TG’s blog. Glad he is going to keep it going. I like this new site, Chris. Good work!!! Glad we can all stay in touch with you too 😉
I used to love storms as well. In fact stand out in the rain to enjoy them until we had too many for my liking a few years ago. I still love lightening and storms and snow it is just I do not like the severe stuff. I am a weather buff being that I teach earth science in high school and try to instill a “safe” love of weather to my students.
I am having trouble with it taking my posts, then it seems to delete several words. The above should say:
In fact I enjoyed standing out in the rain and enjoying them until we had too many for my liking. Sorry.
I just read TG’s first post on his new blog….he did a nice job!! Looks like we will have the best of both worlds!!
Thanks for the update Chris. I now have a new home page. Yeeha. This weather community rocks.
Just read T.G.’s post and he did a great job. Chris, you left the blog in good hands. Now instead of one blog we have two. Thanks,Chris, and keep up the good work.
Well one time I would normal be in position to see a pretty decent storm at home south of London, I was out of town in Hazard. Chris I’m really digging the new website and think things look great so far.
The haze is awful outside today. Reminds me of being in China. You can cut that stuff with a knife. Cool new digs on here Chris Bailey.
