Good Thursday, folks. It’s another windy, but mild day taking shape across our part of the world, but the end is near. We have had one heck of a spring ride over the past few weeks with some of the warmest air you will ever find this early in the season. It’s back to reality this weekend as Old Man Winter punches back.
Let’s start with the good part of the weather program and that’s the weather we have out there today. Highs should still range from 60-65 in many areas under a partly cloudy sky.
Friday’s weather will be cooler, but nice, with a mix of sun and clouds. Temps should generally be in the 50s.
Clouds will quickly increase late Friday ahead of our weekend storm system. It’s a setup that can bring rain and snow to the bluegrass state. The NAM and GFS have slightly different solutions, but both show the potential for some snows.
For now, let’s use the accumulation maps as more of a guide on where the models think the best chance of snows will be.
Here’s the NAM through Sunday morning…
Here’s the GFS through Monday…
Some pretty big differences show up there, but the theme is the same. We’re likely to see snows flying, and maybe some sticking, across our region at some point this weekend.
Temps rebound quickly by Tuesday into Wednesday as a powerful system looks to gather steam and move through here. This looks potent…
Check out the monster temp gradient with that…
A few days after that comes another system of similar magnitude…
These kinds of temp clashes can lead to some wild weather across much of the country, and suggest this weekend may not be our last brush with winter weather.
I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Yeah Chris, we have redbud, dogwood, and blackberry “winters” to come. Also, some old timers say there is a Locust winter in between dogwood winter and blackberry winter.
This weekend should be our first winter called “Service Berry.” Some pronounce it as “Scarvest” down here in Southern KY. These small trees have little white blooms in the mountains and always bloom when the pear trees bloom.
Here’s to hoping this is not another 2007 which was known as the “blackout” year:{
I hope and pray it doesn’t snow clear up to April. My fingers are crossed. I’m ready for the warm weather to stay for a while.
Popping back in because I heard winter may be threatening. Alas, the snowflake is gone from my 7 day forecast and there isn’t even a chance of rain now. Back to the Spring windup, winter is done. Just pack a light jacket folks!
Wrong!!!! Accumulating snows is more than likely done for the season. However the chances of some wet snowflakes mixing in with the RAIN late Saturday night very early Sunday morning is very much a possibility. Depending on who you are a light jacket may not be enough with temps falling into the 30’s for lows and struggling highs to hit the mid 40’s on a very chilly raw Sunday.
