Good Tuesday, folks. It’s spring, but Old Man Winter does not want to go quietly into the night. Some seriously cold air is on the way to the region later this week, and it’s likely to be accompanied by some snow showers and flurries. I know what your thinking… #$*(%#@!#!!! . Keep it clean, this is a family blog. 🙂
Our Tuesday starts with another freeze in many areas with temps in the upper 20s to low 30s. There is still a small threat for an early morning snow flurry.
The big show arrives Wednesday with showers and thunderstorms increasing. This action will be followed by colder air moving in for Thursday…
A clipper dives in behind this on Friday, as the pattern goes straight to the heart of winter. Here’s the European Model…
The snow map from the WeatherBELL European…
The GFS is a little farther south with this clipper…
The model then shows a true plume of snow showers and flurries off Lake Michigan into Saturday…
That’s absurd to see this time of year, and so is the snow map from the GFS…
Temps from Friday into the weekend look brutal…
Keep in mind, normal highs by then are well into the 60s for our part of the world.
Can we find true spring after all that? The European model continues with an ugly look for next week…
And a few days after that…
There are no winners in a pattern like this. Ugh!
Enjoy your day and take care.
So much for Spring Break huh. Kids here in Carter County in Grayson,Ky. are on Spring Break.
It looks like there were more temps close to freezing to the west of the freeze warning zone than actually in the freeze warning zone around here (at least looking at Mesonet this morning). Oops, NWS.
” #$*(%#@!#!!! “, the shock absorbers on Hamlin’s ambulance likely say the same thing to him all the time.
Only when having to drive to Lexington.
As to weather, I don’t see much if any snow out of this.
Mother Nature flipped last December for this April. Good thing I haven’t planted flowers yet!
Oh Chris. I’m ready for the beatdown of old man winter by mother nature to get him to go away. I am loving these spring “teasers” we are getting, but it needs to stay! Thanks for all you do!
If 2007 looks to repeat, it will go straight to Hot in May:{ I like all four seasons but could hold off on the high heat/humidity for a while, especially after having such cool summers lately. A hot summer, if predictions are right, will feel very hot after the overall cool years we have had lately.
I just hope we don’t have a severe drought. SE KY has been a whole drier than Central and Western KY, even last year with much less surplus. We are even right now on the year-to-date but will start to accumulate a deficit within a few weeks if this dry pattern continues.
The only thing that makes this and 2007 seem so bad was the very warm March weather in both years. The warm weather caused the vegetation to advance, and that is a problem. If it gets into the teens, that will be historic, but snow and freezes are if not routine, at least fairly common in Early April. At least one April day on record in Lexington has recorded measurable snow until April 23rd and at least one April day has a hard freeze on record until April 24th. Most days before April 15th have recorded a high temperature in the 30’s.
You know how the Indians always used to do a dance for rain?? I wonder if they have one to bring on spring weather?? Do you think we could look that up somewhere LOL thanks for all you do Chris .
