Good Thursday everyone. The storms of Wednesday caused some severe weather issues for several locations across the state. The early morning ones were among the more photogenic storms you will see around here and my twitter feed blew up with amazing pics like the one above from Lexington. You can always count on a shelf cloud to produce a nice skyscape.
The Wednesday storms were along a cold front that is bringing in a fresher brand of air to the state today. Many locations across the central and east will stay in the mid and upper 80s for highs. Out west… temps hit 100 on Wednesday and should come down toward the low 90s today.
Friday will see a return of higher humidity levels and temps will head toward 90 for everyone. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms of the scattered variety will fire up and that may be the theme of the coming weekend. Each day will feature the threat for some strong storms that, with a muggy airmass in place, will have a lot of water with them.
Scattered thunderstorms should continue into much of next week as the overall pattern across North America begins to change. A nice little trough in the jet stream will set up across the eastern half of the country. This will kick the obscene heat farther west and southwest away from our region. This should provide us with temps very close to normal for this time of year.
It’s a pattern the models suggest may hold for the next few weeks. The GFS and GFS Ensembles are in lock step with one another in showing this…
That is certainly a welcome sight and will feel even better once it arrives. This does not mean our weather is going to turn “cool”… just that we will see a more normal temp pattern for a while.
If you have a vacation scheduled to the southeastern part of the country… Tropical Storm Emily may have something to say about it. The storm has been trending farther west and may become more of a threat to Florida this weekend. Here is the latest from the National Hurricane Center…![[Image of 5-day forecast and coastal areas under a warning or a watch]](https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT05/refresh/AL0511W5_NL_sm2+gif/233014W5_NL_sm.gif)

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.

WONDERFUL! I missed out on all the rain in the past few days…and now NWS says heat index 95-100 today…well time to get the sprinklers rolling…there goes the water bill^^^^^ !!! I AN SO READY FOR FALL/WINTER!!!
We got a pretty good shower yesterday. It just didn’t last very long…however, the keen lightning and loud thunder stayed around for a good bit. I hope we can wring some out of the juicy atmosphere this weekend.
Tim, guess I will get out the watering can….
