Good Thursday everyone and thanks for all you do for the blog. My summer vacation has a few days to go and we will get things back in full swing in the coming days. It’s always good to recharge the batteries and that is especially true as we get set for the busy fall and winter months ahead of us. Plus, some new things may be coming your way during this time, so sit tight.

In terms of the weather around here… nothing has really changed in how things are playing out or will play out for the next several days.

The heat is back and temps today will hit the 90-95 degree range once again. A few spots from Louisville west can be a few degrees hotter. The humidity isn’t as bad as in prior weeks and that is helping us out with the heat index values. Still… it’s hot.

Friday looks to be another 90 degree day as we ramp up the muggy air. This will crank up some afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will be with us over the weekend into early next week. With a tropical airmass in place… locally heavy rains are a good bet and we will watch for high water issues for some.

Did someone say Tropical? Tropical Storm Don formed in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday and has a date with the lone star state of Texas on Friday. This should develop into a strong tropical storm as it brings some badly needed rains to Texas. Here is the tracking information from the National Hurricane Center…

It will be interesting to see what, if any, changes this brings to the overall weather pattern across the country over the next several days.

The tropics should continue to crank up as the wave train in the Atlantic looks active over the next few weeks.

If you are a climate watcher… you probably know how volcanic eruptions can sometimes have an impact on the worlds weather. A lot of folks are keeping an eye on this sleeping giant in Iceland…

That is Katla and it looks harmless enough. There is a growing impression this bad boy is about to blow as numerous earthquakes are showing up near Katla. This is capable of a massive eruption and is now sitting at 92 years since the last big one. The volcano usually blows its top every 40-80 years, so it is overdue. Will it have a noticeable impact on the climate? As always…time will tell.

Just thought you guys might be interested in following along with it.

Let’s leave you with the hot weather tracking toys…
