Good Friday, folks. We have a very active cold front blowing into the state, and this is bringing storms to start out the weekend. The air coming in behind this front looks absolutely awesome as we wrap things up on Sunday. Overall, the pattern looks fairy active over the next few weeks.
Scattered showers and storms will be on the move today, and a few of those could be strong with some heavy rainfall. I will have your tracking toys in a bit.
Saturday is a pretty active weather day as our cold front slams in from the west. Temps can hit 90 in the east before the clouds and storms roll in. Winds are going to be very gusty along and ahead of the front. We will need to watch for a strong line of thunderstorms to develop and race through here…
That has some very cool air pushing that front. Check out the temperature departure from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon…
Lows will be in the 50s by Sunday morning with afternoon highs in the 70s. Monday may see a few spots slip into the upper 40s to start the day.
The early week weather looks good, but a cold front moves our way by Wednesday. The models are leaving a piece of energy behind across the southwestern part of the country at the same time…
The European Model then brings that slow-moving system in here with a lot of rain and storms by the end of next week into the weekend…
The GFS brings that out and merges it with a deep trough…
Here are your tracking tools for the day…
Have a great day and take care.
Looks like Noaa is now predicting Neutral conditions in the Enso regions..There have been three Neutral conditions following Super En-Nino’s of 1982-83, 1965-66 and 1957-58..Looks like there was a bit of everything the following winter’s from early cold to Blizzard’s,flood’s,tornado’s and ICE in the U,S..Now what will this winter bring is the million dollar ???..
Thanks Chris. Appreciate the time you take to explain things about the weather and upcoming possibilities. It is appreciated. And so are you. Wondering how fast that line is going to be moving tomorrow. Can we expect it to come and go quickly, or are we looking at a slower progression a cross the state? Inquiring football minds want to know. ;). Have a wonderful Friday everyone! Thanks again Chris for all you do!
That front tomorrow should move right along. Fairly quick hitting maybe a little punch with the storms as they hit. I say in your neck of the woods mid to late afternoon.
Today I’ve noticed some fall foliage starting to show up here at MSU, can’t wait for the leaves to change completely
Same in Nashville, but that may be at least partly due to heat stress and drought. We had a very dry early part of the summer, then heavy rains around July. It’s now getting very dry again.
Chattanooga and Cleveland TN (where my parents are) have had a serious drought pretty much all summer and the vegetation is struggling.
BTW, are you Morehead State or Murray State? My wife is a Murray State graduate.
I’m at Morehead state, sorry I didn’t think about Murray so I didn’t specify haha. Also very good point, it’s been fairly dry the last couple of weeks.
Hmm, the Storm Prediction Center is saying there is a 40% chance of a Tornado Watch being issued for southern parts of both Illinois and Indiana. Not a whole lot of shear to work with which is somewhat typical for this time of year, but just enough for perhaps a twister or two.
Saturday could have Kentucky (and some of Tennessee) more under the crosshairs for severe t-storms. Mainly a strong damaging wind issue but can’t rule out isolated tornadoes.
