Good Saturday everyone and welcome to a tropical weekend in the bluegrass state. A weekend that will feature more high temps and high humidity levels as we ramp up the threat for heavy rain producing thunderstorms.
There really isn’t a whole lot of difference between the weather of the next few days and what we have had for the past week or so. We will have better coverage of the showers and storms, which will knock our temps down from where they have been. The tropical airmass is going to create more in the way of heavy rains that will cause flash flooding for some. Exactly where that happens is impossible to nail down until we see where the storms set up. Some of these cells will also REALLY spit out some high winds that can cause some damage.
This same pattern will be in place for Sunday and Monday as we continue to be on guard for local severe weather and high water.
After a small dip in temps early in the week… the heat is going to try to fight back in for the middle and end of next week when heat index readings should again top out above 100 degrees.
As we head into August… a change looks to be in the air. The extreme heat and humidity of late should head back west for much of the month as a milder brand of air takes up residence across much of the eastern half of the country. That’s my story and i’m sticking’ to it. ![]()
On a side note… I am taking a MUCH needed vacation over the next week. What does that mean for the blog? Well.. nothing. You know the blog never takes a day off! Good luck trying to find another one man weather source who does that. ![]()

In Louisville, I’ve calculated at least 19 hours of dewpoint temperatures at or exceeding 80 degrees this month. I don’t recall too many 80 degree dewpoints in the past, even during last year’s record hot summer.
Thank you Chris. You are the very best there is for explaining our weather. I know it is going to be tough to do updates while hang gliding off the Grand Canyon. But you will do it. Simply amazing.
I really hope that starting today we can get a good soaker for ALL of the Lexington area. We have had nothing this past week except maybe a light shower that didn’t give us much.

Chris, thank you for your dedication to us. You have no idea how many times I ignore what I hear on the local weather report and say, “Chris Bailey said he thinks….”
Have fun on your well deserved vacation. I hope you are going somewhere that is not part of this heat wave and somewhere with no severe storms. Try to relax now because pretty soon you will be dealing with us begging for the big snow! We are like pesky kids in that respect. 🙂
Thanks, Chris. I hope you have a great vacation. You really do deserve one!
Appreciate you so much! Here is hoping that you are going somewhere that will relaxing for your family, and you can recharge those batteries! Have a great time!
Thanks chris have a great vacation!! In chile playing in 6 feet of snow!!! “LOL”!!!
Hope I get in on some rain action today. It’s bounced around us lately.
Happy vacation, Chris!
80 degree dewpoints in Kentucky certainly are hard to come by. To see 81 and 82 degree dewpoints a week or two ago in the middle of the afternoon was just crazy. I can’t say that I ever recall seeing that before. Did you see where it was blamed on the cornfields of the midwest?
Have a great vacation Chris. You are right, no one else would keep the blog going 365 days a year. You are THE BEST! School starts here on Aug. 3, so please move the heat along by then. 🙂
Just take a couple of days off from the blog.. No one is going to die if you do. You do too much on here as it is much less to work on the blog while you are on vacation… You Deserve it
Have a wonderful vacation Chris! You do deserve it.
I saw your forecast for Tuesday says “clear”. Not that you are ever wrong, but it ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS rains on July 26th in London. I remember cause it’s my birthday.
Yes. One of our local mets discussed that. I’ve never heard that one before a couple of weeks ago. I just thought it was the ‘wet’ ground from all the flooding rains/snow melts of the past few months that contributed to the high dewpoints.
Chris. Have a great vacation!
Let’s hope Lexington gets some rain (except for that part of Lex that got 4 inches yesterday) Obviously they don’t want anymore. I think it was north central Fayette county.
I don’t even recall seeing dew points that high either. I wonder what the record heat index readings are for this area? I noticed the Wilmington NWS office put out that info for their area
Looks like most the rain is staying just outside the KY borders
It does seem to be that way today….wonder if any more will pop up today?
