Good Friday to one and all. Our heat wave rolls on into today as the thunder gets set to roll into the weekend. The boomers will help knock the torrid temps down for a few days as we shift our focus toward the threat for more local severe storms and high water issues.
We are likely to see readings back into the low and mid 90s for many today. Heat index values will be back in the 100-110 range… yada yada yada.
If you are need a virtual break from the heat or a little winter fix, let’s take you to Chile of all places…
Parts of southern Chile are digging out from an amazing 9 feet of snow!!!!! By the way… this storm JUST missed us to the south. What’s 5,000 miles among friends?
Back here in the amazon… the high humidity levels will remain into the weekend as temps come down several degrees from where we are now. That should stay that way into the start of next week before the heat makes another run at us…
Notice the change showing up by early August. That is a signal that has been popping up for a long while now and it will be interesting to follow. The areas that are the hottest now may go toward milder for August.
The GFS Ensembles show this for the first 5 days of the new month…
Showers and thunderstorms will become a bit more widespread this afternoon and evening and some of these will pack a wallop. Every day this week has featured flash flooding and severe weather across various parts of the state and today should be no different.
The threat for showers and storms will ramp up into Saturday and Sunday. It won’t rain all the time and we will be hot and humid in between rains… just not AS hot.
Let’s get to your daily dose of tracking toys…

Today’s Highs

As usual… I will have updates as needed. Have a great Friday and take care.
So the snowdome is still hanging over us. Those folks in Chile got our “big one”. Oh, just think of the power outages and major disruptions that could have been ours!! 🙂
I almost spit my coffee out laughing when I read that!LOL!! 9 feet of snow would sure take care of the ky snowdome!!
right now would be a good time for some winter thoughts while we are all toasty
Serious lighting right now in downtown Lex. No rain yet.
Thunder and getting dark in Richmond Rd/Man-O-War area
As of yet, no rain in northwest Lexington at all. And that storm that hit close by sure doesn’t feel like it put much of a dent in the feel like temp. I was just outside and it’s disgustingly pursafunctantly humid and hot.
A light rain started in north Lexington, Paris Pike/N Broadway area, along with rolling thunder and some serious cloud to ground lightning. This is the same area that had the flooding issues that created a traffic headache earlier today.
JavaJoe, how much rain did that area get today? For us here in the Gardenside area of Lexington, it hasn’t rained a single drop today! We certainly heard the thunder and saw the dark sky, but all we have had all day is heat, heat, heat! I just got back in from taking the dog out and it is thundering again but once again, no rain in sight for us here.
Chris, thanks again for all of your work for all of us! We may not tell you as often during these summer months, but we do appreciate you as much in the heat of summer as we do in the frigid cold of winter! Thanks! 🙂
Some parts got 3″- in about 90 minutes! Check out the story and pics http://www.kentucky.com/2011/07/22/1820737/flash-flood-warning-issued-for.html
