Good Monday morning. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is now out for parts of central Kentucky until 5AM CST. Here’s a look at the counties included in the watch…
A line of severe thunderstorms will continue to work eastward overnight into early Monday. Damaging winds will be the main threat with hail and isolated tornadoes possible. Follow along with the latest warnings…
I will have updates as needed and will continue to blow up your twitter feeds with new information and warnings. Don’t forget about the radars, current conditions and weather cams up top and keep posting the weather where you live.
Take care.
Good morning, everyone. Chris, WXMAN, Mitch or any one of the many very skillful weather folks here – can you please help me with this question. My 83 year old mom, a widow and who has a heart condition to complicate matters, lives in Northern McCreary Co. This storm tonight has me so concerned that I am considering calling a relative from Somerset to go get Mom so that she won’t have to ride this out by herself. Do any of you have any thoughts on how serious this might be for McCreary Co? And, when do you feel the most damaging of the storms will make it’s way there? I SINCERELY APPRECIATE any of your thoughts on this! Thank you all very much!! Hope everyone and your families are safe during this severe weather outbreak!
Should be ok. If she’s in a mobile home, there could be some issues as the storms roll in there around 4:30 or 5.
Chris, THANKS SO MUCH for taking the time on a crazy night like this to answer my worried questions! That’s one (of the many) reasons why you are the best!! Thanks!
I am not in that area, Strummer. But I will certainly add your mother to my prayers this evening.
Arky Arky, THANK YOU for your prayers! You have no idea how much that means! Stay safe tonight!
I can relate. My parents in the Chattanooga/Cleveland TN area had three or so twisters come near them last April 27, including that monster (almost an EF5) that devastated Ringgold GA and Apison TN. Despite downed land phone lines and jammed cell circuits, they soon got out word they were ok, but it was still unnerving.
Yea, the area near McCreary County was badly hit by tornadoes in 1974 (about 10 years before I was born). With the horrific exception of Brandenburg, the Somerset/Monticello areas were perhaps hardest hit in KY from the so-called Super Outbreak.
ok, lets go from severe to snow….whats next
