Good morning. A new SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS now out for much of central and eastern Kentucky until 9am. A squall line of thunderstorms continues to work eastward across the state with damaging winds the main threat. An isolated tornado and large hail are also possible.
Here’s a look at the watch outline…
This map allows you to track the current warnings…
I will update things as needed and continue to tweet the latest warnings. Take care.
Nothing more than a basic thunderstorm here.
Same here in northwest Lex. about ten minutes of squall line heavy wind/rain with little lightening or thunder. I’ve seen much much worse before. I’m glad quite frankly! I’m not in the mood for T Storms in January……Blah!
My wx alert radio went off a few times here in south central KY, but they were severe t-storm warnings, not tornado warnings. I was barely awake at first, then slept through the rest (guess it was just as well since I had to be at work by 7am). If anything, the t-storm almost a week ago left more downed limbs and such than this event.
Hope people in Murray KY and especially Arkansas are ok. I’m fascinated by severe wx, but at same time the potential risk to lives can’t help but be a bit disheartening. Hopefully our current wx pattern won’t lead to a repeat of the Feb 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak (around 30 fatalities in KY and TN) but with the way this winter has gone……..
Nothing but brief heavy rain in my part of Bourbon County. It seems last Tuesday’s system was more dangerous and we didn’t have advance warning of that one. Not blaming anybody, just saying the surprise storms seem to be the ones that do the most damage.
Our power got knocked out 3-ish in Garrard, and parts of Boyle. Michael P., were you affected? Good thing my internal alarm clock woke us up, but I was 7 minutes off. Didn’t notice anything severe, just heavy rain.
Mostly very heavy rain and some wind. Will take that over ice, since was this time a few years ago when we got the big ice storm.
Ok, haven’t posted in awhile…But this weeks weather headline looks to be “BORING AS YOU GET WINTER WEATHER” If winter is what you want to call this…….
I just hope this is a year that we get a big snowstorm that pops out of nowhere…It just looks to be a terrible year for winter so far and on the horizon. Tell us thats not true Chris.
Can you believe the sauna of a day we are having. Only about 3 days this season have resembled winter, 1.5 inches of snow and we are nearly to February. I can state that most days this winter I have been able to comfortably wear a short sleeve shirt, and the cold hard truth, or in our case the warm hard truth, is that this winter may not at all materialize. True we have had measurable snow in march, but the truth is, march snow is more rare than not. But that is no surprise given the average monthly high in March is 55 degrees, in fact by the end of February the temperature in central Kentucky rises to 50 degrees for the high. Just saying folks, that I love winter, but the possibility that we may have one of the all time weakest winters in record keeping history is starting to become promulgated across the land. Enjoy the 60’s today as they are in themselves a real treat.
Say what you want, but the SPC did a better job putting out the Watches along with mesoscale discussions for issuing those watches.
I do think some of the damage in western KY and parts of southern IN could be attributable to brief tornado spinups along that line. Will be interesting to see if NWS conducts any surveys.
I know Murray KY got slammed, Owensboro area was roughed up. Hopefully, Lisa-Owensboro will report in today. Tell City IN also reported structural damage.
Severe T-storm Warnings are going out for those storms along the I-71 corridor in northern Kentucky. Looks like the front is going to sweep through with one final bang.
nothing like going for a spring jog, in shorts/t-shirt in (JANUARY!?!?!) oh well…pay backs are coming (or at least I hope)…lol..
Sunshine
Windy !
62*… In the new tropical state of KY.
had a good icing Saturday , not what I want!
I want SNOW!!
Chris’s mention of the weekend sounds interesting, however, from what I can tell it appears to involve a possible east coast storm. So are we talking wrap around or something more? VERY curious to hear Chris’s thoughts on this system.
We’re sounding desperate and hoping Chris can pull a snowstorm out of his hat, but time and Mother Nature are against us. Remember, Mother Nature is a woman. 😉
