Good afternoon everyone. Thanks for all the reports and tweets from last night’s severe weather event across the state. You guys rock and show the rest of the weather world how its done! I wanted to drop by for some quick thoughts on where we go from here.
– Winds will continue to crank up this afternoon and may reach 40-50mph at times in the central and east.
– Things finally begin to calm down overnight into Tuesday.
– Slow moving upper level low across the south will throw rain our way for Wednesday into Thursday.
– A deep trough will be digging into the central and eastern part of the country late week into the weekend and will bring winter back in.
– What kind of interaction will we get from our southern system and the trough digging in? Some models suggest not much , while others show the two getting together with a storm working up the east coast. The Canadian is in this camp…
– Even if there isn’t a big storm… that’s a pattern to get a few snow systems diving in from the northwest.
I will have another update later today. Have a great Monday and take care.
66 degrees outside here right know. Gusty winds as well blowing things around. Forecast had called for mid-50s I think. Crazy weather to say the least. Keep up the excellent work, enjoy reading your blog.
thanks, Chris. I figured that after last night, you needed a chance to get a little shut eye. thanks so much for all you do when the weather is threatening! I hope you can give us some good news about some snowy weather later in the week, to look forward to.
Thanks again!
The one thing I have learned about the weather this year is “A DEEP TROUGH” = 2 -maybe 3 days of 20 degree weather-maybe a snow shower , then back back to the 50’s….To say “winter is back” is comedy to me. A deep trough is a “visit” by our neighbor, then leaves very quickly. A deep trough is Not Winter staying for awhile. A deep trough is our only “shots” of winter this year. A deep trough is a phrase that is really on my nerves this year. It hasn’t proved to have any staying power this year!!
agreed….simply put, this winter has been as dull as my great great grandfathers hand-me-down knife! Maybe for some, it has been exciting having Tornadoes & storms in January. But, seriously, how many times have we heard a week out, that there is a “pattern getting my attention for some possible snow & winter fun”. Only to have it never brought up again the next 7 days & it was like the statement was never even mentioned, lol. Ooops, everyone forgot, haha.
For anyone to get hyped up for ANY type of possible pattern change a week out, is just dooming themselves for a HUGE letdown. Winter may be starting late, or into May, who knows? But, the ONLY way we make all the MET’s winter predictions of a “much above normal” snowfall winter come true is if we get dumped on by a mother of a storm with about 2 feet of the white stuff. Otherwise, there is NO way any of us reach the predicted snowfall of 2011-12.
Clipper systems seem to be our only chance at snow this year.
Chris thanks for the update and for all the posts last night that kept us aware of the stormy weather…..
I don’t want to say that I am giving up hope on snow, but I am giving up hope. I don’t see any long periods of cold air that is going to stick around long enough to give one of these rain makers some cold air to work with. Every week it seems to be the same senerio. Wait until next week…We will be waiting until next week and it will be Summer before we know it.
No disrespect, but I think it’s time we quit touting the next trough, because all they’re good for is a 1-2 day blast of cooler air. This Winter will go down as one of the worst for snow and cold lovers. It’s time to get through these next few weeks of winter and welcome spring. Oh wait, it’s already spring.
I love this weather…gets me in the mood for fishing..baseball…and everything spring and summer brings.
This winter being mild is not a surprise to me, last year snowy & cold this year mild. This is what Ky is known for, 1 year drought, the next wettest on record.
Wkyt and wymt have around a 30 degree difference on temps for sunday
Temps back in the 40s next monday
