Good Sunday everyone and welcome to some toasty temps. Our thermometers are going to take off today into Monday as readings spike into the 90s with the high humidity levels chipping in to add to the misery index.
The heat will give us the usual two day run before showers and thunderstorms move in to kick the stuff back out of here. That looks to take place Tuesday into Wednesday… more on that in just a bit.
High temps today will hit 90 for most areas with western parts of the state closer to 95 in some spots. Add in the humidity levels and readings will feel even hotter. Track it all with the good folks at Kentucky Mesonet…

There could be an afternoon or evening popcorn thunderstorm… but don’t bet on it.
Monday looks to be even hotter as readings head toward the low 90s for much of the region. The west will be well into the middle 90s. Add in even higher humidity levels and the heat index is likely to flirt with or exceed 100… especially in the west.
We will have to watch for some scattered showers and storms later Monday into Monday evening. If these get cranking early enough… they could impact the temps. Speaking of storms… Monday night through Wednesday is likely to produce a few rounds of booming storms across our region as a cold front swings in.
The GFS is spitting out more than an inch of rain during this time…
This should knock our temps back down toward normal levels for the middle and end of the week. The heat ridge is going to continue to hang out in the plains states and even the western states at times. This will continue to put us on the eastern cusp of the heat from time to time.
This also sets up more of the same with frequent bouts of showers and thunderstorms for the middle and end of July. The more things change, the more they stay the same. ![]()
Have a great Sunday and take care.

I live in southeastern Bourbon County and my rain gauge had 4.5 inches of rain in it on Friday. I missed putting it out for the first couple hours of the rain, so I think we got close to 5 inches. The feed buckets hanging on the fence confirmed the amount. Nobody around here believes me. They say all official reports suggest we got around 2 inches. Well, we got more than twice that much!! Just reporting the facts. 🙂
Thanks,Chris. Yesterday was very nice and last night was near perfect! Guess we shouldn’t complain about the heat too much. After all, it is July, and it’s not like it is hanging around for too long without relief. Have a great Sunday, all!
Nexrad shows a line of 3-4″ across southern Bourbon County so I think you observation is spot on.

new normals are out looks like the 1981-2010 time frame killed our annual average snowfall quite a bit…but think back to all the 3-4 inch snows that were recorded as and inch…
Wow, our average use to be like 19″ in Lexington, right? Now it’s 13″. Crazy!

storm or 2 popping up,
Yuck.. No thanks to this heat and mid 70s dew points.
Where is the long range discussion that was promised last week and the season that so many of us seem to like? Are you actually going to discuss the 11/12 Winter 5 months in advance? Not very valid but would like to hear what you see in the 60-90 day time frame. If the tropics are quiet this year I say it’s time to rethink the long range and indicators that are used to try and predict it.

I think that Chris has been closer than most of the weather people on TV. It is not an exact talent but he is closer than most. If you think your better than his forecast then by all means see if you can get a job with whatever TV station to prove him wrong.
