Good afternoon, gang. Snow showers and flurries have caused some travel issues across parts of the region today. With additional snow showers sweeping through tonight and Saturday, similar issues may develop. The main light snow maker arrives Sunday into Monday with a more widespread situation.
Here’s the regional radar for today’s snows…
I have no changes to the Sunday-Monday system. It looks like a nice swath of 1″-3″ of snow for much of the state taking shape. One thing I’m watching for is the potential we see some convective banding setting up. That could mean some fun and fames.
Here’s the GFS snowfall map through Monday…
Notice the amp up across the southeast? That typically happens on a northwesterly flow.
The models then show a few more systems to impact us with some light snow from Tuesday-Thursday. Here’s the first one…
This follows it up…
The GFS is now seeing these systems and you can see that on the 7 day snow map…
We also need to watch next weekend. The setup can lead to an Ohio Valley winter storm during that period.
I will update things later today. Make it a good one and take care.
Thanks Chris! Hopefully we can get *SOME* snow next week.
Next weekend models giving KY rain for now but could be a big event and lots can change!
Will be excited for snow next weekend when models show moisture and temperatures are low enough.
On the warmer side of things, even with 5 days to go, I am projecting Bowling Green to finish in the top ten for warmest January’s on their record books. It will be close for Louisville, but not optimistic enough to make that call.
SE KY area should as be a close top 10 call.
I received a dusting in Harlan today with a bit more in ares throughout the county, especially higher elevations.
Congrats!!! We had a rooftop duster today but that didn’t stop the salt trucks acting like we had half a foot of snow.
Amen to that
“The setup beyond that is one that will be primed for a couple of big winter storms across the Midwest and Ohio Valley.” The last time CB said that the coming setup was one that supports a Winter storm around here. Here`s hoping!

Some roads are salted in Bowling Green! I guess the salt stock pile is high and they figure why not! Lol!
Maybe we can actually reach 1″ for season total by Sunday. 😉
Nashville TN (at least at the main airport) has had a whopping….. 0.7 inches so far this season. 😛
This compares to the 8 inch snow Nashville had from that one storm alone last January, a little over a year ago today.
Not to mention the Jan monthly temps should also be near top 10 warmest too…do you know how much above average Nashville is so far?
Will look it up, but I recall hearing that if January had ended about a week and a half ago, Nashville would have had its third(?) warmest January on record and that is despite dropping to 8 degrees one morning.
Seven tenths of an inch here too; however, next weekend is looking more promising.
Well, the GFS and the Euro are trying to hint at a Southern Winter storm for next weekend. 🙂 BOTS!

I know it is a looooooong way out snow wise, but put a NW trend on that and #Snowmaggedon!
Sure is pretty to look at and as a bonus, Joe Bastardi is backing this porential.
18z run of gfs is eye candy for southern snowstorm…It’s too bad by 00z or 06z it will go poof!!..lol
I saw where Charleston WV is about 8 degrees above normal on temps for January thru the 25th. It also said 15 days in a row ending on the 26th the temps we’re above 32. That type warmth unheard for middle of Winter. But I think it just goes along with every month since last August, much warmer.
