Good Tuesday everyone. Our weather is about to take a walk on the wintry side and we get things started off with some wet snow late tonight into Wednesday. This may even leave behind a small, slushy accumulation for some areas. Some slush even sounds good about right now, doesn’t it?

A weak area of low pressure will zip across the Tennessee Valley early Wednesday and will throw moisture northward into the region. This will start out as a touch of light rain and snow overnight, but should become mainly light snow by daybreak Wednesday.

You can see the juice with this system on the GFS…

Here’s what that same model run thinks falls in the way of snow…

I actually like the look of that map. Keep in mind we will see a lot of melting flakes and any accumulation would mainly be confined to grassy and elevated surfaces.

The NAM snowfall map is a bit more ramped up in the east…

The snow will taper off from west to east Wednesday afternoon and evening with a few flurries lingering into Wednesday night.

A seasonal chill will be with us for Thursday ahead of an arctic front that should arrive by Friday evening and night. This will, at least, have a band of light snow with it with snow showers and flurries behind it into Saturday. The GFS Ensembles really show how strong this front is…

Will some southern stream moisture get drawn into this front? That remains to be seen… but there isΒ a chance and it’s something we will be watching for.

I am also keeping an eye on the setup for next week. It’s one that may feature a pressing cold air mass across the northern half of the country with an active storm track underneath it.

I will have more updates later today. Have a great Tuesday and take care.
