Good Monday evening everybody and thanks for making KWC one of your weather stops. Snow and cold lovers have had a tough go at it this winter and many are ready to throw in the towel. Old Man Winter tries to make a comeback this week with a couple of snow chances.
The first chance moves in Tuesday night and Wednesday as a weak wave of low pressure works northeastward across the Tennessee Valley. This throws some light rain and light snow into our region. I’m a little more bullish on this system than earlier and I suspect temps will be colder than the models are showing. As a matter of fact… their new runs are coming in a few degrees lower.
The NAM shows the area that has a shot at a small, slushy accumulation…
The GFS appears to be a tad colder and thus a little better chance at some flakes…
Let’s not get carried away with this as it’s not going to amount to much. But, it’s something to track during these desperate snow times.
Something else we have to track is a blast of cold for the coming weekend that may be accompanied by some snow. The European would give us a shot at snow Friday night and Saturday…
That’s a cold look with a reinforcing shot arriving Sunday. This model is not alone in showing the snow chances…
Canadian Friday Night/Saturday Morning
JMA Saturday Morning
With a different looking pattern… Let’s see where the ride takes us this week.
Have a great evening and take care.
Doesn’t look like much wednesday. Is it just me or does that cold air really weaken by monday morning? Winter over??
Winter never started
why r u always so negative every time chris tries to give us a ray of hope. i respect your opinion as much as any one elses but you get on here day in and day out with all sorts of negativity. heck if we only get a coating this week it is better than nothing and remember that we are in a step down mode with the atmosphere meaning it has to gradually get colder, it is not going to happen over night. like i said before, we may be screaming for winter to stop by the time may rolls around. god bless you my friend and thanks for reading.
Toney I was not trying to be negative at all. I was truly wondering how the cold air that appears to be weakening may affect our remaining winter, if any effect at all. Truly sorry to you man and everyone else. God bless you and everyone else as well. Again, don’t take me for a grain of salt. Sorry again, and I will read without commenting from now on, as I realize that I have an overall negative impact for everyone apparently. Thanks, and may the Lord bless you all.
You can comment as much as you want Jonb.
I, however, will tease you unmercifully as I do others 😉
♥
You do not need to apologize. Hold your head up. It is not like you wrote that you want to knee cap a weatherman.
I see those who said ‘see you next December’ have decided to stay…. well great! 🙂 Now can we try to be a bit more positive since you’ve come back? LOL. 😉
Cheer up!
Realism vs Negativity, You be the judge. Although I am optimistic that we will see a freak or surprise snowfall before April. By the way the forum is about opinions & stories. Everybody is welcome to participate as long as it does not become personal. Of course that is just my opinion. See you here tomorrow night. Oh wait a minute, Ky is playing Fla. at 19:00. Well maybe not.
There is a difference between being realistic and being negative. Someone who is being realistic sees both sides of a situation. They do not focus on just one side.
Yes, this winter has not been a snow lovers dream winter. It seems it may not be at all. However, the week does call for a little snow. At heart, I am a snow lover. However, I’m also a realist. While we may not have a lot of snow this year, I am happy to get some! Some is better than none.
Amen!
While I’d prefer to dig myself out of the house covered in snow… I really would just take an hour of it falling so I can take a winter walk! 😉
…. its my favorite peaceful time to have a good long talk with God 🙂
Guys this will be my last post. Sorry for starting such a commotion and seeming so negative, when I really didn’t mean to. God bless.
Aww come on,,,just teasing…
You’re crazy man! don’t be leaving, I enjoy your posts. Negative or not, we all post negative stuff on here, especially during times of no snow. Don’t leave!
Everyone is acting like this is the warmest winter ever. How about some stats to refute/back up the claim.
The warmest winter ever in Lexington was 1889-1890 with an average of 46.5 degrees. Through today, our average is 39.5. That is good for the 6th warmest winter on record and the warmest since 1949-1950.
The least snowiest winter season (Jul-Jun) ever in Lexington was 2.1 inches in 1931-1932. So far this season, 1.1 inches
So, it is the warmest winter since 1950 and the least snowiest ever (so far)
No wonder winter lovers are getting grumpy!
As touched on earlier, January 1890 had F4 tornadoes in Kentucky – among other places. Then came March 27 1890, KY’s deadliest day for twisters including the deadliest single tornado (Louisville). That was a La Niña year, just like this year. Time will tell if 2012 will mirror 1890….. or if nature throws out the chess board and does her own thing this spring.
Thanks for the update Chris…
I would much rather have a warm winter and no snow than a cold winter and no snow. I have enjoyed the low LG&E bills and being to leave my windows open for most of the afternoons and early. Have even been able to get out and work a few days each week this season. Not sure what the next few weeks will bring, but it surely can’t get any worse. Bring on SUMMER weather as spring is about over. I will be buying stock in OFF! this year. We will need it as the mosquitos are already bad.
Have a great evening everyone and god bless.
THINK SNOW!!!
a dusting to half inch of snow across northern KY still looks good after a look at the 00z models.
Thanks Chris!
