Good Sunday, everyone. A potent storm system is diving in here from the northwest, meeting up with moisture surging in from the south. This hookup will lead to showers and thunderstorms blowing up, with some strong storms and very heavy rains possible.
Scattered storms will increase today, but the main action develops this evening and lasts into Monday morning…
This setup can develop some big time rain producing storms across our region. The greatest threat for that appears to be along and south of Interstate 64. This is the area where 1″-3″ of rain may fall and the models are all over that potential…
Given how much rain many of these areas have picked up in recent weekend, the flash flood threat is increased. Keep an eye out on those waterways.
Track today’s action…
Showers and storms will slowly move away from the region on Monday, with MUCH cooler air coming in behind it. Temps on Tuesday will be from 70-75, with cooler air waiting for Wednesday.
The GFS has Wednesday morning deep into the 40s for many…
With some clouds and scattered showers coming in from an upper level low, Wednesday afternoon numbers on that model are only in the 60s for many…
The cooler than normal air will take us through the rest of the week into next week, but won’t be nearly as cool as the above maps.
A big warmup is waiting in the wings for the middle of the month. Don’t be surprised if we aren’t talking about the first widespread 90 degree temps of the summer by then. Don’t worry, just like the entire pattern, it’s transient and shouldn’t just settle in for the long haul. 😉
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks Chris, A big change from yesterdays forecast for the worse. This pattern reminds me of what we had back in the years 1959-60. In March of 1960 however, we had two huge snowstorms, which topped better than 24 inches in southwest Indiana where I grew up. I don’t know if Kentucky receive any snow or not that year, as there was hardly any weather news back then. Maybe, if this weather pattern holds on we may have more snowstorms this coming winter. Have a great Sunday everyone.
Back in March of 1960 Bowling Green had a snowstorm of 2′ as well.
Sorry for those who received too much rain however, here in Mason county WV we need the rain…..bring it!!
Thanks Chris. We have managed to have s very nice weekend here in south central Ky and I am not complaining. Been partly cloudy today so far, but I see the radar is starting to get a little color on it now. So we will see. In any event here is hoping the most rain goes where it is needed and those who don’t need it get less. Have a great rest of your Sundsy everyone.
