Good Monday evening, gang. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is out for the western part of the bluegrass state tonight. This is the area that stands a good shot at picking up a coating to 2″ of wet snowfall.
Here’s a look at the counties included…
Areas just to the east of the advisory and points along and north of Interstate 64 should get in on some light accumulating snows. This COULD push an inch in a few spots. The timing of the light snow may make for a slick morning commute for many.
Southern and southeastern parts of the state may get more of a mix of light rain and snow as temps will be just a tad warmer.
Temps across the entire state will rise above freezing Tuesday and this will lead to more light rain than anything else.
Don’t forget to check out the tracking tools at the top of the page. Radars, current conditions and live cams are all there for your weather enjoyment.
Have a great evening and take care.
Move along folks….nothing to see here!!!
Wonder what BG will get? We are just east of the advisory!
If it’s any sign as to what we got in the expected 2-4 inch range the other day, you might see a flurry if you squint hard enough. I had a heavy frost-like snow that melted as soon as morning came. My excitement for the chances of snow ae gone since it never materializes. I hope you have better luck than those of us in eastern KY near the WV had.
don’t forget to hold your mouth the right way when you squint, you may actually see some snow!
Chris didn’t sound to impressed with whats coming in tonight, looks like the dome took 1 winter off but is now back in charge like most of the past 14 years or so.
In my 7 years -14 inches of snow – total. The dome has never left my part of Richmond.
Poor Chris! He sounds so dejected anymore. I know how much he love snow. 🙁 I’m not ready to give up hope for one good snowfall. We still have 1/3 of winter left!! 🙂
There is still a little hope for us central Kentuckians.

Radar trends looks like a 3 hour window of actual stuff hitting the ground. Central KY area should be 12 to 3 am or so, I think rain is out because no precip will be here when it warms up? Forecast needs work!
I know it probably won’t amount to much….but it’s sleeting/snowing here on Lakeville in Magoffin County!
It’s snowing!!! It’s not accumulating yet, but it’s snowing!! Not sure when it started because I was watching my son’s play, but it was pouring when we leave about 8pm CST
Dear Snow Day,
I have to say I’m very hurt that you stood me up for our last date. As we both know, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. If you want to repair this relationship – you should be here tomorrow. If you don’t show up – we are over.
Love,
Stephanie.
I wish there was a like button!
No snow day =
7:21 update from Paducah:
.UPDATE…
LATEST RUC WARMS SURFACE TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING OVER MUCH OF
THE AREA BY 06Z. 01Z METARS INDICATE THAT MOST AREAS OVER SOUTHERN
ILLINOIS…SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND WEST KENTUCKY ARE ALREADY BACK
UP TO THE FREEZING MARK…WHICH WOULD SUPPORT THE RUC SOLUTION.
GROUND TRUTH REPORTS INDICATE THAT THE MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW HAS
ALREADY TRANSITIONED TO A MIX OF LIGHT SNOW…SNOW PELLETS AND
RAIN/FREEZING RAIN AS OF 01Z…WHICH MEANS THAT THE SNOW AMOUNTS
WILL NEED TO BE SLASHED SIGNIFICANTLY.
CURRENTLY FEEL THAT A DUSTING OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE
EVANSVILLE AREA BEFORE THE MIXTURE ARRIVES THERE. ONCE THE LIGHT
RAIN BEGINS SOME LIGHT ICING OF ELEVATED SURFACES WILL BE POSSIBLE
IN AREAS WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE AT OR JUST BELOW FREEZING.
OBSERVATIONS HERE AT THE OFFICE INDICATE THAT ROADS SHOULD REMAIN
WET…SO TRAVEL IMPACTS ARE NOT LIKELY TO BE AS BAD AS ORIGINALLY
EXPECTED. WILL HAVE TO WATCH SURFACE TEMPERATURES CLOSELY THROUGH
THE EVENING…AND MAY BE ABLE TO CLEAR A PORTION OF THE ADVISORY
BEFORE MIDNIGHT.
Oh well..just bring on Spring.
2 busted forecast for snow in 3 days, this must be KY!!!
Tonight sums up this winter for snow fans, look at the dome on radar, also warm air coming in quickly, verga is also in the picture tonight, the trifecta of snow killing.
Don’t you all remember last winter when CB kept building up a “big one” and it hit all around Kentucky and we only got an inch or two?
CB even posted the snow map forecast to show it and he was spot on. I think it was discussed for almost two weeks before the event and then the dome did it’s thing and CB even had it on his snow map (not directly, but the map showed it). This happened twice last winter.
This IS Kentucky weather. The more center of the state you go, the less chance for a good snow event. It is what it is and the results are not a fabrication, but the real deal.
If you want a good snow event, you will need to either move or go on vacation where it does snow. This wimpy winter makes no difference, since even in the good winter- similar results.
The good news is that short of zero snow, we can not go any lower. Surely the trend starts to go up….. I suppose.
weather.com is saying 1 to 2 inches by 5am for Richmond. I am confused.
RUC shows dry air busting what wintry precip there is right when it hits the ohio river. There may be a chance covington may not get anything, especially with humidity and dew points so low.
most of what’s falling across the region is sleet. warm layer just above the surface.
Snowing in Etown. Starting to cover my deck already. 🙂
