Good Tuesday and Happy Valentine’s Day. Our weather out there today isn’t the best in the world as we have some snow, mix and rain combining to put a little ugly in our sweet day. We have a fairly active weather pattern that will throw another storm our way by Thursday.
The short-term weather will feature some light snow early today across some areas. This could cause a few slick spots for the morning commute. Temps are marginal for much snow this morning and will then warm into the upper 30s and low 40s by this afternoon. That means anything falling from the sky will be in the form of a chilly rain.
Wednesday looks pretty good with temps heading back into the 40s with some early day sun possible. Clouds will quickly work in from west to east and some showers may develop across the west by evening. That will set the stage for more rain into Thursday as low pressure works across the Ohio Valley. The NAM shows what I’m talking about…
That’s a nice little drink of water and I can’t rule out a rumble of thunder across the south. Temps will make a run toward 50.
That system moves away as colder air works in behind the departing low and that air will gradually grow colder into the weekend. Many of the models are also trying their best to develop a storm across the southeastern states by Sunday and that may be something to keep an eye on. The GFS…
Don’t forget to follow today’s weather with the tracking tools at the top of the page. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day and take care.
Wishing for a white Valentine’s Day. No such luck. Hope everyone has a great day!
Its been snowing nicely in E-Town for at least 1/2 hour. Sticking too. My deck is white 🙂
Jeanette,
Looks like ETOWN just might be in the moderate snow band for a few hours. Heavy snow moving into Hartford and heading for Leitchfield…..You all might get 2 inches out of this.
Etown to Radcliff may just be the sweet spot…..
Its my anniversary. 12 yrs ago on Valentines at 3am I gave my life to Christ. He usually gives me snow. ♥
🙂
Big fat flakes coming down now 😉
A great day to celebrate, sorry about the snow!
Sorry?
The best comment I’ve read in a long time. Happy Birthday!!!
Coming down really had in Met Lou. Only going to last a few mins, but it looks nice. Wish it would snow like this for hours and hours…
Still think Central Ky will be the hot spot for the next couple hours.
IDK, bjenks…I am in NE Louisville near LaGrange/Westport Rd & in just half an hour the ground is covered in white. Looking at the radar, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised to see us get a couple inches out of this by morning & then all the questions will be coming out about why we get WWA’s from the NWS when we get a dusting, but not when we get 2″ lol. I can hear it now. many could be surprised when they wake up in the morning.
If you mean hot spot as in rain- agreed 😉
Good snow here in north E-town. 🙂
Still going, but mixing with sleet now.
Photos in the ‘reader photo’ section of the blog 🙂
Nice snow in Cynthiana,
No school in Montgomery. Can’t see why by looking outside my window in town. ? ? ?
1.6″ of snow in NE Lou Metro near Jeff/Old Co. line!! streets snow and ice covered.
guess what??? its raining..blah..
i love reading this blog and chris does a wonderful job, but my hope of getting a snow are gone…. so with this storm maybe for the weekend i say it will be 37 and rain 2″ lol seems to be our luck…. cant believe in feb, you will hear the winds blowing overnight and that only means temps are warming up… what a winter!
Really slick, huge flakes, and snow covered roads in Fleming County
I haven’t said it yet, but I am going to say it, I give up on SNOW! If it could just dry out and give me some 60’s and 70’s I would be one happy lady! Kept hoping for snow for my 2 and 3 year old to play in, but it definetly doesn’t look to be happening this year 🙁
nothing in London/Corbin …. started out sleeting but has since changed to all rain …. I can’t figure out why places like jackson and clay called school off – it never did anything to warrant cancelling school – that’s just abusing the system in my book!!
Borderline rain/freezing rain in Lawrenceburg this morning. Sitting right on 32 degrees according to the Davis VP2. Roads are just wet.. a little slush on the driveway. That’s about all to speak of.
Bring on the severe thunderstorms. I’m done with Winter.
Interestingly, it’s being reported La Niña is showing signs of winding down. While we touched on that nature can always throw wild cards, will be interesting to see if there will be enough La Niña left to effect KY’s peak severe wx months of March/April/May. For that matter, the 2008 Super Tuesday outbreak (during a La Niña period) was harsh reminder that Feb can be volatile.
Also, the last cold outbreak plunged lows even in the Florida panhandle into the teens. However, seems doubtful this brief shot of deep South cold would cool the very warm Gulf waters that much, perhaps somewhat like adding a few ice cubes to a hot tub.
Kentucky + winter = Kensucky
oh that sooo made me laugh so hard. Thanks for that 😀
Made me laugh, too. Very clever and (sadly) VERY true. This “winter” definitely sucks! 🙁
Humor can be good medicine 🙂
Wish the winter weather here had one though 😉
After last night and early this morning, we are now at (still at) 14 inches of snow in the last 7 years in my part of Madison county. We did have plenty of dark last night however.
Mike where are you located? In the past seven years we have had well over a dozen one and two inchers a few four inchers and one that might have been seven inches (dry blowy snow, so hard to tell). I think the six-seven inch snow was three or four years ago.
Though we have only had one real good snow in seven years (not a big snow), we have got more than 14″ total.
Five years ago? I can’t remember- Big snow is a figment now. Approaching 14 years with no big snow. WILD.
Actually, it IS fourteen years now.
We got about an inch of snow here in Shelbyville. Two hour delay for Shelby County Schools.
….and rain on Thursday! Go away “winter”.
35 and rain…It is absolutly terrible!!!! UGLY!
However, on a bright note it was a 10 this morning(Actually every morning)..not the temperature was a 10 , but my beautiful wife is a 10! She is everything to me, and I wish her a Very happy, loved filled Valentines Day!!!
Does your wife cook? Mine says that a wife doing cooking is a legend. 🙁
I would cry, but there is enough rain already.
Well… I have waited as long as I can… but here goes, BRING ON SPRING!!! I love snow more than anyone (I am an avid snowboarder and will travel to get white) but living and working in what we have had this winter has been Seattle-style depressing!
I am holding out hope for one single storm, but know that it is too late in the season for it to stick around to play in. We can always give it a go next year!
Good work Chris! I love your site.
I am so over cold rain every few days…
this commente is really not weather related but in a way it is if that makes any sense. even though it is not really that cold for the time of year, you can still make it cold enough to snuggle tonight if u wish to.
just turn the heat off if u have electric heat or turn it way down if u have gas heat. do this around 5 or 6 pm and by bed time, say 10 or 11pm the house should be just cold enough to cuddle and still be comfy.
OH, BY THE WAY, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO MY LOVELY WIFE OF 13 PLUS YEARS TO WHOM I NEVER DATED NOT 1 TIME BUT YET WE STILL GOT MARRIED. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, DIXIE
Skunked by yet another small event, not so much as a dusting.
I will continue to lay hopes on the end of the month, looks like players will be on the field. Maybe, just maybe, we see a phased storm with cold air arriving just in the nick of time. Before anyone gets to it, I know. The pattern thus far begs to differ. Time will tell!
tic toc…
tic toc….
In the middle of Mercer county this morning at 5am there was mainly rain with a little sleet and a few flakes mixed it. From then on it was downhill to a decently heavy rain. All the way to work for a 30 minute commute it was 32 degrees and rain. I am so done with winter now. Nothing like recurrent rain at 32/33 degrees all winter to give you the snow blues.
We had HUGE beautiful snowflakes today!!!!! Didnt amount to much, but it was BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Measured anywhere from 6-8 inches up on Black Mountain today and that’s likely with a little melting occurring in between.
Maybe a slushy 1/2 in. in Frankfort this morning, season total approaching 3 inches. WOW!!
For us folks in Eastern Ky the model runs were not so kind like yesterday for sunday-monday event…Still not alot of agreement though on the track of the low along the Gulf…If this can track more inland and further north we may get Da bomb…At one point a few of the models were showing Eastern ky and most of virginia getting pounded…Let just hope the models trend more to what they were showing yesterday…
Big shift with the 18z gfs giving us a pretty decent snow for the weekend. Knowing our luck the west trend will be so much that it puts us in the cold rain again….
Wow,what a difference in the 18Gfs…First time its showed this solution…Fun times maybe this weekend..
I have been told by the weather experts, that the 6z & 18z is not as good as the 0z & 12z. I do expect that a storm will form down south. If the low forms near the Ga & Fl border, I cannot see 75% of Ky receiving any major accumulation.
