Good Tuesday evening, gang. The snow system this morning worked out pretty much as planned with a light snowfall for some. This was enough to get make a few kids and teachers smile. 🙂
The snow didn’t stick around long as temps warmed well above freezing with light rain taking over. The ugly Valentine’s day weather rolls into our evening and the forecast isn’t looking much prettier over the next few days.
A storm system rolls our way by Wednesday night and Thursday. Clouds will increase ahead of this on Wednesday as our temps mild up to near 50. Showers arrive quickly from west to east during the evening and carry us into Thursday.
This is another quick mover that will scoot in and out of here and should leave us with a decent Friday and Saturday. Normal temps and some sunshine should be noted.
It’s time to really start focusing on a possible storm for the Saturday night and Sunday. The models have been rather bullish on a big storm developing across the deep south and working into the Carolinas during this time. That is usually a track favorable for accumulating snow around here. The latest GFS is showing the potential…
The European has this same low…
Let’s put this one in the “keep a close eye on” folder.
The same run of the European Model also shows another storm to keep an eye on next week…
Have a great evening and take care.
Thanks, Chris. Hope the weekend storm materializes and ( hopefully) brings us some white stuff. Either way, whatever happens will happen. Thanks for all you do. Have a great evening everyone.
Bill Curry used to have a name for all the UK football faithful that would apply to all the snow deprived blog addicts. Does anyone remember what the name was? As usual I’ll bite and hope this weekend pans out in our favor. At least it’s less than 7 days away.
It was something like the committee of the miserable.
Fellowship of the miserable for what it’s worth.
15 days of met. winter left….what do you call a delayed winter that flops into March and April? WRONG!
yea BILL CURRY also said the DOUBLE BARREL SHOGUN was interesting.
What?
It wouldn’t take much at all to get snowfall from that Sunday system as the GFS has been showing it. A slight northward trend and it’s on. Will be fun to watch.
For only Eastern Ky?
Too far southbound for w.ky & Louisville. I doubt that it will move northward.
So let me get this straight. We are five days out and we are talking snow???? Haven’t we been throught this enough this season. I am so ready for a few storms, summer and 90 degree’s. A week or two of high 90’s ( only to warm my pool ) and then a comfortable low humidity 90 degree day would be nice. If we get snow, so be it. I am through with it and will only nowcast any system that moves are way.
I will say this, every system over the past several years that the models show going south seem to always move further North a day or two before the storm materializes. The models, which I won’t be looking at, might start showing this trend by weeks end. Not thinking snow anymore as I have given up all hope.
Thanks CB…Hope every one had a nice Valentines day.
I absolutely love weather! It is the one thing in my life I have no control over! So I get hyped about it all.
00z gfs just a hair late on phasing this weekend but oh so close. Once it phases to our east you can see it clocks the northeast.
I seen this scenario too many times. Either it will stay too far to the south because of the cold air (even though the cold air will not be as deep as it could be with an arctic high) or it will go up the coast.
I think the best chance for us to receive a substantial snow is for the temps to be a little above the guidance that the models are predicting at this time.
Everything has to be perfect for the majority of Ky to receive a major snowfall. At least the low is to the south of us this time.
looks like the latest run of GFS has trended more northwest…There’s no doubt someone should get a good snowfall from this system… Models are in good agreement a storm should develop.. As of right now the northeast is gonna get pounded…As far as Ky who knows anymore,if the stars line correctly maybe Eastern Ky can get lucky…About time for the Euro, should be interesting..
