Damage in Henryville, IN is unbelievable. Cars thrown around everywhere, buildings completely destroyed, debris everywhere. Already one confirmed fatality. WAVE 3 meteorologists say based on video of damage they have seen it looks like an EF-3 to EF-5 tornado.

A little girl was found in a field in Salem, IN and flown to Kosair Chidlren’s Hospital in Louisville. No one knows who she is and they are trying to find her parents. A lot of sad stories coming out of Southern Indiana.

Anyone in the London area…anyone have word on the damage in East Bernstadt/Hawk Creek area of Laurel County? I have heard that it’s bad…

    • SnowBabySnow
SnowBabySnow on March 2, 2012 at 9:07 pm

I’m from London. The only thing I’ve heard is Laurel County declared a state of emergency. I would think it’s because of the damage in East Bernstadt/Hawk Creek area but not for sure. That’s all I know right now. When the light of day comes I have a feeling we will all be in awe of all the damage in our beautiful state. I hope the lose of life is few. My thoughts and prayers to all who are affected. It’s all I can do to hold back the tears. Just tragic.

There have been reports of 3 dead. The Arthur Ridge area has multiple homes destroyed. From what my friends are saying…it’s awful.

The I-64 corridor from Louisville eastward to Lexington really was spared. There was a corridor about twenty miles north and south of 64 between those cities that was spared the brunt of the damage. Go west/north you have the devastation in S. Indiana and it looks like eastern and southeastern KY have also been hard hit.

Didn’t have anything other than rain, and a very threatening sky in Lawrenceburg. Did hear of some big hail in the northern part of the city and in northern Anderson Co.

dodged bullet so far in southern Breathitt Co no tornado warnings for us was issued severe thunderstorm warning around 745 a little lightning no hail or high winds. Winds blew hardest about 30-45 min before storm hit. I believe that once storms began hitting mountains they began to weaken. There was major weakening from the time the storm went thru Laurel Co until it hit us. Keeping an eye on that secondary line that has developed Should move thru here in a half hour or so. Pray our electric stays on but mostly praying for those in Morgan, Magoffin and Menifee Co I pray for all of you. Never seen anything to this extent in Eastern Ky. in my nearly 30 years

Yeah, we have been spared in Perry Co. as well.. I was expecting more comments here, i suppose lot are without power/computers tonight.. Those radar images of Salyersville and West Liberty are jaw dropping. You just dont see this very much in Eastern Ky. No telling what daybreak will bring tomorrow.. Is there any way to look at the Jackson radar loop the last 6-8 hours?? God bless everyone that is suffering tonight.

Nothing in Bardstown/Nelson Co…sirens went off for mainly the Southern portion near Larue/Marion Counties. Which surprises the crap out of me because they NEVER sound the things until it’s 40 miles past us, anyway….had some rain and a couple of power surges…I feel so terrible for those in IN and E. KY that were affected by this storm. My prayers and sincerest wishes go out to you. God Bless.

We were under tornado warning for a little while sirens were going off we went to basement for abt 45 mins, had pea size hail, heavy rain, alot of lightening was scary for alittle bit but we had nothing like others had today! Praying for all of those who were affected by these storms!!!!!!

For those of us that are still able to see the damage around us, all of us dodged a 16″ shell today. Thoughts go out to those that were not as lucky as we all were.

I was in Oklahoma city in ’99, I was lucky enough just to lose my roof.

Word from Laurel County…just talked to a friend in the East Bernstadt area who reports many more people trapped and missing. Rescue crews trying to clear trees and debris. This tornado was such a quick developer. We were clear, then all of a sudden, a tornado warning. I’m so glad the storms are finally over.

Another friend of mine is currently at St. Joseph’s hospital in London and describes a sad scene of many injured, 2 people pronounced dead on arrival. Very sad day for Laurel County.

I’m originally from Laurel County…I’m hearing the same things…my friends parent’s house was destroyed…they live on N25. We’ve heard that the Little Arthur Ridge area was hit really hard.

I have followed this blog for a LONG time, but this is my first time posting. Living in Eastern Ky and being fortunate enough not to have endured the devastation that my neighboring counties have, I feel we really need to embrace these people. If anyone knows anyway that someone can help out please let me know.

New emergency radio issued by Madison county EMS didn’t work at all; it never went off. It was plugged and the batteries fully charged. Since the radio (supposed to be very good) never went off I underestimated the storms. The radio did more harm than good. Can’t underestimate how dangerous that was. The radio is supposed to go off based on threats to the area where its located. People may not think they are in danger if the tool they have been told to trust didn’t work. I have heard from others with the same problem. This needs to be looked into.

My thoughts and prayers also for the injured and the people who lost so much today in Kentucky. It’s a sad day. I fared well in Perry County, thank God. I’m going to try to find out how I can help some of the affected families.

I’ve been getting reports that there was significant damage in Blaine, Ky, which is located in Lawrence County. I’ve heard reports of people being trapped in their homes and even fatalities. Not sure if the fatalities are true though. Also have heard damage reports south of Louisa. Also, a huge chunk of Johnson county and Martin County Kentucky also got slammed by tornadoes. West Van Lear in Johnson County has pretty much been demolished. It’s really bad, not sure why there hasn’t been reports about those cities yet.
