Good Thursday to one and all. Today is going to be an unsettling weather day for a lot of people across Kentucky. This will be the first round of showers and storms to move through since Friday’s deadly tornado outbreak. The good news is that today’s storms are not expected to be severe. Heavy rains and some gusty winds will be likely, but these should be the typical, run of the mill storms.

The action today is ahead of a strong cold front moving through here later today. Temps will spike into the 60s before the rain moves in and will then drop fairly quickly as the drops fall. Rainfall totals may hit an inch for some areas… especially across our southern counties.

Winds will be gusty as the front blows through here. Much cooler and drier air moves in later tonight into Friday and this dry weather should last most of the weekend. Temps will warm to around 50 on Friday and will hit the mid and upper 50s Saturday and near 60 Sunday.

The slow-moving upper low in the plains will make another run at us by later Sunday into early next week. Showers and thunderstorms will move back in during this time and we will have to watch for another round of heavy rain and maybe a strong storm or two.

The setup over the next 5 days puts our region right on the cusp of some serious rainfall. Look at the numbers from the GFS…

This system should finally clear the region by the middle of next week. Temps should remain above normal during the rainy period and then REALLY take off for the rest of next week. I am looking at this pattern over the next few weeks and wondering if we can get flirt with some record highs.

The GFS Ensembles certainly look very warm…

That works for me!

Have a great Thursday and take care.
