Good Monday and Happy Memorial Day. Today a day we honor those who have served and continue to serve this country. It is also a day that finds a lot of folks outside with cookouts and gatherings and mother nature has decided to skip Memorial Day and go right to the 4th of July.
Sunny skies will be back with us as hot and humid conditions crank up. Highs today will top out around 90 or into the low 90s.
Current Temps
Tuesday looks to see another hot and humid day with temps heading toward the lower 90s. An increase in moisture could fire up an isolated thunderstorm Tuesday with a better threat for a storm coming Wednesday.
This takes us into the first days of June and out heat ridge tries to flex some muscle and strengthen later this week into the coming weekend. Check out the hot look on the European Model…
This will likely mean a continuation of 90 degree heat for much of our region. This is not that common for the first week of June as only 5 of the last 40 years in Lexington featured a 90 in the first 7 days.
The first day of June also is the start of the Atlantic Hurricane season. The various forecast models have been hinting at some early mischief for some time now. That trend continues as the models all try to pick up on something from the Caribbean into the Gulf during the second week of the month.
GFS

That interesting and something to watch for over the next few weeks.
Have a great and safe Memorial Day and take care.

What happened to the forecast that this would be a cooler summer due to all the moisture?
Pat…the forecast, if you’ll recall, was for a cooler than normal summer for each month OVERALL. There would still be small stretches of heat (what was it, 25 days of 90s?), and in particular the ending half of May was to be quite warm. Let’s wait until we have the avg temps in for June before we start worrying just yet about a ‘busted’ forecast.
and just imagine how hot it would be if not for all the moisture in the ground and be thankful we do have that moisture that way its not as bad as it COULD have been
I asked the same question. The answer may be that without the moisture we would be in record heat territory right now. And we had some warm weather this spring at times. That always lead to storms as the cold or cooler weather pushed back in. Wonder how this heat effects the storm pattern as some of that western cool pushes east.
Also, I think CB said that this heat may shift west a little during this week and will allow our temperature to come down a little and lead to some Thunderstorms. That would provide more moisture and help cool temperatures at times.
I also think that CB mentioned some warm weather hitting a few weeks back. He mentioned that the models were showing a warm-up before returning to the cool-to-average and stormy weather. Hopefully CB will have the time to post about what the models are showing or his thoughts on the summer or at least June and July.
This mini heat wave may be the hottest it gets all Summer according to JB, the former accuweather long range forecaster. I sure hope he’s right! I hate this 90deg+ stuff!!
