Good Thursday everyone. Some big time hail producing thunderstorms worked across the state on Wednesday as mother nature takes thunderstorms to the max once again. It looks like she will have a few more chances to do the same thing over the next several days.
We have a calm day taking place on this Thursday as sunshine returns. Winds will be a little breezy as temps return to the mid and upper 60s.
A cold front will dive in on Friday and may produce some quick-moving clusters of showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms may become severe with damaging winds the primary threat. That will be followed by the threat for large hail.
Here’s a look at the area the Storm Prediction is targeting for severe weather on Friday…
Temps will drop some on Saturday as leftover showers slowly move away.
Another shot of warm air moves in by Sunday and Monday and this will be ahead of a potent system working in from the northwest. This will also have the chance to produce severe weather later Monday or Tuesday. You can see the temp contrast along this front via the European Model…
It’s a busy pattern and one that could feature more rounds of severe thunderstorms.
Have a great Thursday and take care.
I take you all arrived in the Big Easy safe and sound? That’s a long trip to make in one day, but you looked like you had a pretty comfortable seat in the kyt van! I’ll be sure to check into KYT tonight to see what you have to say about the CATS and the weather!!
Yes! Bring on the severe weather, I’m ready for more action!
Please don’t say that if you come to west liberty and see what severe weather can do to people live you might not want to bring it on I’m still scared to death of a storm I’m sorry don’t want to start trouble on here but that’s just a crazy thing to say…..
I lived thru the tornadoes in London Ky several years ago and to this day I am scared to death of storms. I got my husband to build me a storm shelter under ground and now I feel safer but still terrified. Something u never get over so I know what the people of West Liberty are going thru.
I can understand, Marsha. In 1998, a tornado hit close to me near Cleveland TN with one death (same day as Nashville’s downtown tornado and south-central TN’s “forgotten F5” tornado); this shocked me out of my teenage funk about not taking severe wx seriously. My parents near Chattanooga have had two recent narrow misses (April 27 2011 and March 2 2012).
Anyone that totally likes severe wx is indeed not normal. But some can appreciate the workings of severe wx yet fear for death and destruction. People that like the workings of severe wx are often the first to warn of dangerous wx, to advise of safety rules. In this regard, we need to watch very carefully this coming Mon or Tue as that could be a dangerous day, but that is days away so forecast is subject to revision.
Oh great!! If my electricity goes off on Monday night like it did in the last eight minutes of the Indiana game I’ll go off!! Either way if Ky wins or loses I still want to see the final game!!! Geeeeez!
(Not wanting to Jinx KY by seeming too over confident)!!
Marsha, I personally know what West Liberty looks like, I have been working over there multiple days and I know it has to be tough. Because someone says brings on severe weather doesn’t mean they are wishing for death and destruction, There is going to be severe weather whether someone wishes for it or not. The tornados on March 2nd was also a learning curve, it has opened the eyes of many people to be alert and heed warnings. I know it is tough for you all right now and I don’t want you to take what I wrote the wrong way.
Does anyone think mon and tue will be another mar 2 if so I’m leaving until wed I will never forget that day….
You my friend, have finally found the wisdom that many on here seem to lack. I don’t wish for death and destruction, I wish to see nature displayed in a more interesting way than most do.
I’sorry I didn’t think that you was wishing that’s on anyone I’m very sorry it’s just the thought of storms scare me to death I just meant that it was crazy for someone to like storms
Nothing close to the scale of March 2 2012 has ever happened in eastern Ky in about 110 years of records. If we go by this alone, it may be very unlikely to happen soon, perhaps for many of us not again in our lifetimes. It’s usually central/western KY that’s in the cross hairs. Due to the terrain, seems to take a unique combination of factors to have tornado outbreaks in eastern Ky.
For a similar comparison, West Virginia had extreme devastation by tornadoes in 1944. Otherwise, WV has seen nothing close to the 1944 event, neither before nor since.
We still have to be on the lookout in general, and especially for early next week in particular. But hope this is of some comfort.
Go Big Blue! Get out and enjoy some fine New Orleans “hospitality” while you have the chance, Chris. 😉
Chris, you guys need to find the time to go to Drago’s for their chargrilled oysters. At the Hilton at Poydras and the river, or in Fat City in Metarie. You can thank me later.
Hope you are having a good time in NO. Cheer the CATS on to victory for us! the ride should be call the “CATamaVan!” (I know you were asking for suggestions yesterday.) Hope we don’t get anything too severe tomorrow. Of coure, it actually missed us yesterday, but those pictures of hail were something!
Very inappropriate of Tornadolarkin to insult the readership on here about a lack of wisdom.
