Good Tuesday to one and all. It would be very easy to sit here and talk about all the gloomy and chilly weather we are in the middle of across the state. I chose to concentrate on the positive and that is a MAJOR warm up that is on the way by the weekend and this one is likely to have some staying power. ![]()
Take a look at the map below to see what a big time temp turnaround is about to happen…
That is one heck of a pattern flip that takes us from well below normal temps to well above normal and this happens in just a matter of a few days.
The warm air will begin to be noticed around here on Thursday as readings soar back into the 60s with some 70s if we can get enough sun. Friday will see readings back into the 70s with the big time warmth pushing in for the weekend.
Take a look at the GFS temp forecast for Saturday…
I love me some 80s and that is what’s in our future this weekend and into much of next week. We are likely to see a fair amount of humidity to go along with the warm temps… but who cares?!
This is also a pattern that should keep normal to above normal temps with us through much of the rest of the month. On the flip side… it is one that will also really get the severe storm train rolling again from the plains into the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. We talked about this thing firing back up for the second half of the month and that appears to be the case.
In order to get to all the warm temps… we have a few more days of nasty to contend with. Rain will increase today as low pressure works into the mid atlantic states. This will throw rain back toward the west into central and eastern Kentucky… similar to what you would see in the winter with a snowstorm.
Follow the drops here…
Temps today will be cold for this time of the year. Highs won’t stray too far from 50 across the eastern half of the state as the west warms toward the low 60s.
Current Temps
More showers will be likely on Wednesday as temps begin to inch up a bit. Get us to Thursday and Friday and we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Have a great Tuesday and take care.

I really don’t mind the coolish temps. I can mow the yard without sweating and being bothered by bugs, I can grill out with no bugs and neither my furnace or AC have to run. I can exercise outdoors much easier. On this primary day, I’m voting for Keeping it Cool!
It’s not very often that you look at radar and everything is going from east to west. 🙂
Agreed, that east to west flow of showers this morning is kinda creepy looking for some reason. Chris, some of us do care about humidity…in that we don’t like it man 😉 Speaking of which, I’d really like at least one of our local station mets to start throwing in a dew point forecast to go along with the temps each day.
I’m sorry…….But I HAD to finally turn the heat on when I got up. It was 62 in my house.
“This is also a pattern that should keep normal to above normal temps with us through much of the rest of the month.”
Does this mean we are going to have to deal with more of this ridiculous cold through Memorial Day weekend?
dont forget preakness play, at even money or better bet whatever u can afford on ANIMAL KINGDOM
use MIDNITE INTERLUDE AND shacklford in exacta keying AK on top. im going 100 doll ex key with those 2 and 5,000 win on AK at even money or better.
It is a shame for us snow lovers this pattern is not in January or Feb. Temps in the low 20’s with snow wrapping in from the east coast storm. Let the warmth begin, I for one like normal weather in the spring, 70’s please 🙂
Not enough distance for Nehro?
EMERSON NEHRO has ran ALOTY in a short period, broke madien in Jan i think it was then been running alot, louisana derby, ark derby then KY DERBY I think they should rest the horse up no more triple crown races and poiint for big SUMMER RACES at 1/ 1/8 1 1/16. his kick much more better from those distances to a mile. run him in HASKELL would be were to p9oint him them try him again at the classic distance in BC CLASSIC. horse was tired in DERBY and needs a break and I think assmussen will do rite by him because he has a horse than can win some big races this summer. u weant see Animal kingdom after he wins TRIPLE CROWN till at least august and u might not see he no more period as I talk to MR IRWIN assistant and TEAM VALOR and they would retire him if he wins TP CROWN which he will.
Emerson horse is tired look what he has done since january, no sense running this horse no more rest up till july and point towards the big SUMMER CLASSICS, TRAVERS,HASKELL etc. cause after AKINGSOM wins TRIPLE VROWN he be retired, they might run him 2 more times 1 prep in august then breeders classic. nehro a tired horse and running him would hurt more than help. he can win somebig time race later this summer with a layoff.
emerson NEHRO needs a break, has done so much in a short period, very tired horse right now and I think assmussen knows this. look for him to layoff till july or so then come back at a mile or 1 1/16 and win and get ready for HASKELL,TRAVERS ETC. NEHRO i dont think except if they try classic go furter than 1 1/8th. his kick shorther 2 turns better. i think u might run him in BC MILE instead of 1 1/4. also point towards haskell instead of classic distance in travers. but horse has proved himself and needs to be freshen up. AKINGDOM after winning TP CROWN will retire, they MIGHT run him 2 more time 1 prep and then the CLASSIC but winng triple crown they will send him to the breeding shed and that open up the whole racing scenr late summer into fall.
emersom nehro needs a break, tired horse look how much he has ran in just 3 months and also he not a 1 1/4 horse 1 1/8 on back to mile if u askme. look for them to freshen him up and return in july at saratoga or monmouth.
if i connection i point NEHRO too the BREEDERS CUP MILE, got a bad ride by way i8n derby being up so close, he a dead closer.
akingdom will be retired after winning TP CROWN and that open things up across the board.
NEHRO then might run in CLASSIC. but nehro given time off will be a 10 times better horse than u saw lately and will win a grade 1 this summer.
EMERSON just announced minutes ago NEHRO will pass preakness, MR ZAYAT oner says BELMONT a possibilty after giving him 5 weeks off.
Rolo, you sure called it right in the Peter Pan Stakes… hats off to you. So, you see Animal Kingdom as the horse to bet? How about if the track comes up muddy?
Agree with the layoff for Nehro, I thought 1 1/4 was a good distance for him though. He is a dead closer for sure, I love that running style. I do like Shackleford, go to the front and make someone chase him down, better distance for him.
Wowzers, I thought this was a horse race blog for a minute.
I love me some cool temps, but 40’s & 50’s in MAY is kinda stretching even my patience. My tomato plants are NOT happy!
Can we have some 70’s & sunshine please?
Cool, yes, but can we have ten more degrees? About 60 would be “perfect!”
I like your picks, rolo. I cashed a ticket on AK in the Derby. He could go all the way.
Faye, AK should be able to handle any type of track based on his pedigree.
It was announced today Nehro will skip the Preakness and aim for the Belmont. They cited too many races in too few weeks and want to give him a breather.
Looks like the official high at KLEX was 50.
Look up what happened on May 20, 1894 in Central Kentucky if you think this is bad. 6 inches of snow at Lexington–High 42, Low 32. I couldn’t imagine that!
I can’t help but say that its May not Early March it needs to be nice and warm with 40’s not to be seen for a few months. Ill be glad when this weekend comes as warmth will hopefully make a return for the rest of the season and this chilly crap can bite the dust for the next 5 months or so.
I would not over look Dialed in. The best horse rarely wins the Derby and I bet even if he goes off at second choice you will get 7-2 or 9-2!
Will this ban circling back from the Northeast ever reach Lex? It has been dancin at our doorstep for hours now and last time I looked it was breaking apart right before Lex. It is like the the famous Lex snow dome affect….errrr….except it is mid May!
