Good Friday everyone and welcome to another stormy pattern. Just like our last stormy setup… this one will have the potential to produce some severe weather to go along with heavy rains. This will lead us into another very ugly pattern for next week and one that will be a total opposite to the one we are just wrapping up.

Showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase across the region today as a slow moving low pressure approaches from the west. Some of these storms may be strong or severe with damaging winds and large hail the main threats. Here is the area the Storm Prediction Center is watching today…

Latest Day 1 convective outlook

These storms will contain very heavy rains and this can lead to local high water issues today. Follow the showers and storms across the state…

Showers and storms will carry us into the weekend. Saturday may end up being the stormiest of the bunch as the rain and boomers look to be fairly widespread. Just like today… heavy rains and a few severe storms will be possible. Highs will be in the 70s.

Sunday will see low pressure working over us with more showers and some early day thunder. Winds will be rather gusty as temps begin to take a tumble. Highs will be in the 60s.

Next week looks nothing short of ugly! A series of cut off upper level lows are forecast to rotate across the Ohio Valley.  That shows up very well on the 500mb maps from the European Model…

From a weather geek standpoint… that is actually a cool thing to see on a map. It is not so cool to deal with as it means a damp and chilly pattern for much of the region. Check out the temp departures from the GFS Ensembles…

Again… that is just flat out ugly! The chilly pattern looks to hang tough for much of next week before finally going the other way by next weekend and beyond. I am seeing signs of a prolonged stretch of normal to just above normal air for the last half of the month.

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Friday and take care.
