Good Thursday everyone and thanks for dropping by the blog. We have an air mass in place that is straight out of the middle of summer as VERY warm temps and high humidity levels make it feel like July. This pattern is not going to last and is in no way a sign of things to come.

Today will be another warm and humid day as temps soar into the middle and upper 80s. A 90 is possible in a few spots. Track the current temps here…

A scattered storm or two will go up today into the evening hours and you can see those here…

The weather of the next several days will see an increase in showers and thunderstorms across our region and these will likely lead to torrential rains that can cause local flooding problems. The storms from a few days ago showed just what this atmosphere can do. Hail and high winds were common in these bad boys and flooding rains caused major issues.

Here is an amazing Wednesday flood pic from high above Prestonsburg…

A slow moving low pressure will roll eastward into the region this weekend. Rounds of slow moving showers and thunderstorms will be likely from Friday through Sunday. These will have a ton of moisture to work with and should be very efficient rain producers. Here what the NAM sees for rain fall through Saturday…

Any storm that goes up could also go severe and that is another aspect we will be watching for.

This low will bring in MUCH cooler air from late Sunday into much of next week. This is a shot of some real deal chill that will see temps head back below normal. That shows up well here on the GFS Ensembles Temp Departure maps…

You can also see how temps try to rebound way down the road as a milder pattern emerges again.

I will have updates as needed so check back. Have a great Thursday and take care.
